Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I want it so bad though! I hope they find someone. If all else fails, port it to iOS.
That 80's rock music looks worth its play alone.
@Magnalon did they say why they won't do it?
I thought Death Smiles sold decently in the west.
I'll have to find the link.
They said it did sell " ok", but not enough to turn a real profit, I believe.
Either way they're not interested in shmups atm.
Steep pricedrops at online retailers usually indicate that the game is not selling very well, so there's that.

This post was by an AKSYS employee.
I found this from shmups on Twitter, which is probably the best source of news out there for shmups right now - http://twitter.com/shmups - follow the about link and register for their forum if you're a fan, as our own BulletMagnet is a mod there :D
Anyways, as anyone who knows me would expect, I've got this one preordered...on a related note, Bullet Soul and Eschatos both arrived in the mail today (they're region-free, if anyone else wants to snag 'em), so I've gotta split!
Anyway, here's hoping it makes it to the States in some form.
"I don't know how much Deathsmiles sold, but the UK price has dropped to 18 pounds very fast"
That's the price it launched at.
See how fast it dropped! INSTANTLY!
come on niche games do sell on PS3(at least in japan)
at least G rev is bringing mamorukun :P
"We were reasonably satisfied with the performance of Deathsmiles, but we are not currently pursuing any other similar games."
You made it sound much more dire than it is with this comment:
"Sadly, Aksys already said a few weeks ago they'll never publish another shmup release like Deathsmiles again, so they're out."
Two radically different statements. How can they pursue localization of Akai Katana when the native version isn't even finished? And also, they won't announce anything that could potentially spill their beans until an official press release. I think Aksys will continue with Cave in the future.
Cave. We're done here.
Ild imagine that localising shmups is very simple and should return a profit as long as the costs are kept low and if Cave are good partners. Luckly RSG get this.
I think what has got Aksys' knickers in a twist is that they had overly high expectations (and so did many of the fans) thas DeathSmiles would be the vanguard of a shmup comeback just like SFIV was for VS fighters. This would never happen as western gamers get fighters while shmups are much harder for gamers to understand whats so good about them compared to arena based shooters like geometry wars which are big hits because they are easier to pick up and play
I do appaud this site for running articles on Cave games as its a crying shame their games arnt available to western gamers
So all we can do is play the waiting game, still DeathSmiles 2 has been out in Japan for a while now so we might hear news about this over the next couple of months
Deathsmiles SOLD OUT it's first print run.
