Catherine screenshots feature climbing, blood & climbing photo

So, Catherine's gameplay has finally been revealed and it looks ... well ... not quite as great as the rest of it. The bipedal sheep are sweet, the big swingin' mammary glands are fine, but the actual "interactive" part of this interactive entertainment? Skepticism is creeping in.

The latest selection of screenshots confirm most of what we already know -- that Vincent will be doing a lot of climbing. Your job is to navigate a tower of blocks within a time limit and move things around to create a path. Some of the blocks have traps in them, such as spikes, and various parts of the tower contain collectibles.

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network will be integrated into the game, although it's likely they'll just be leaderboards. You never know, though. Something unique may pop out of the bag.

I have to say that I'm with Conrad on this. I was really excited about the game, conceptually, but it's starting to look like one of those games that try to sell based on concept alone and may lack the gameplay to back it up.

I certainly hope I am wrong, as I think we need more games with Catherine's eccentricity and uniqueness. I also don't think this game will be bad. I just worry that it'll end up being Q*Bert with tits ... and nobody wants that.

Anyone remember Intelligent Qube? That game was the shit.

I have ridiculous expectations that Catherine will be Intelligent Qube, with a badass anime story.

Hmmmm....well then. That's um, not appealing to me at all. Still waiting to see/read more about the game but damn, that doesn't sound very fun for me.

I want that, if only for the sake of curiosity.

Well that does certainly look strange. Is this even being released outside of Japan?

The only thing that could make this game worthwhile (if your this type) is if you turn the volume down, play Pink Floyd's The Wall, and take shitload of acid.

Hmmm. Not encouraging, but I'll wait and see with this one.

Hmm, yeah, I agree that I was pretty excited at first but this is now getting to be fairly different from what I had originally thought it would be...and not in a good way. :-\

Eh, Deadly Premonition had terrible action sequences, but the rest of the game was amazing (bullseye, good shot, good shot). Catherine looks to be in the same mould really. Atlus can create tension with minimal gameplay outside the RPG genre (see: Hellnight/Dark Messiah), so I have a tiny bit of faith in them.

Most likely, you're gonna love the game despite the flaws or your going to be hung up on this one part. It's just going to be one of those games, unfortunately.

IQ is one of my fave games evar! You're the only other person I know that's ever even mentioned that game. :)

That said, Catherine better not be like Intelligent Qube.

Until the Persona team cranks out a real stinker, I have little reason to doubt this game will be good. Most Atlus games turn out to be pretty thoughtful and progressive in design, so I'm willing to give them more than the benefit of a doubt here based on Persona 3 and 4 alone.

Fucking told everyone there was a reason Atlus was actively hiding the gameplay from people.

I'm still a bit interested in this game, but I will remain skeptical until I see the gameplay in motion. Pushing boxes sounds dumb as shit. It's like you take 1 puzzle from Zelda and make a whole game of that. No thanks.

Yea...the gameplay doesn't look too appealing. If it had interesting platforming, I'd be down, but it just looks like an uninspired climbing-fest.

But that's why we have reviewers. To tell us what the gameplay is like!

Personally i dunno, yes, now i feel less hyped about the game but unless reviews prove this is a turd beyond repair i'm still interested, after all Deadly Premonition was just another lame RE4 clone and Plants Vs Zombies was just another tower defense game, right? concepts are worthless, the concept implementation is what makes the difference between "GOTY contestant" and "another turd".

They know I'll buy anything with boobs.

Because of that, they know that gameplay is irrelevant.

Day 1 purchase.

Q*Bert with tits in one Rule 34 I never want to see. *shudder*

It's a shame it sounds like the gameplay will be bland as hell, seeing as the concept and design looked so damnded intriguing. I knew there was reason to worry when all they were showing us was story segments but no gameplay.

I'm with Magnalon. If this game can pull off 'action puzzler' as well as Intelligent Qube did, plus have an Atlus-style story to go along with it - Game of the freaking year.

Although I do consider it a bit sad that the gaming community all at once seems super disappointed that this may have gameplay which requires thought. If it doesn't feature killing stuff, I guess people just don't give a shit.

I miss Japanese non-sensibilities in games. This looks too ridiculous not to be awesome. A horror puzzle game inside a sexual anxiety nightmare. As long as the gameplay is solid and the time limit doable, my mind is blown.

OH NO. VAGUE DESCRIPTIONS INDICATE NONTRADITIONAL GAMEPLAY. SOLVING PUZZLES AND RUNNING INSTEAD OF FIGHTING MONSTERS LIKE I THOUGHT BECAUSE EVERY HORROR GAME NEEDS TO BE LIKE SILENT HILL. THIS GAME WILL BE TERRIBLE NOW.

I'm not normally one to say this, but shut the fuck up, Jim, (Conrad too) and wait until you see how the gameplay actually works before passing judgement.

Well, given how creative looking this dream world appears to be, you'd think you would be doing much more then climbing a puzzle tower.
