Thief coming out on February 25, 2014 for Xbox One & PS4
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

We've been talking a lot about some big AAA games the past few days, so what's one more to close out the week?

Thief is looking mighty fine based on our hands-on time, and we're going to have wait until next year before we can steal whatever we want. Thief will be out on February 25, 2014 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

In the mean time, here's a brand new cinematic trailer that showcases what's going on in the overall world while you're busy stealing things. The rich are taking everything from themselves, while the poor struggle to survive.

This Thief demo sees the return of a trusty tool

Thief has been getting a lot of well-deserved buzz since its announcement, not the least of which surrounds its new Focus mechanic. Is it game-breaking, or harmlessly non-intrusive? Well, I'm here to to tell you none of that...

Thief is going to be an exhilarating game photo
Thief is going to be an exhilarating game
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

We've already covered Thief and the latest demo we saw was largely the same: go in someone's house and steal their most precious item. Steven Hansen broke down a lot of the mechanics already, so I just wanted to touch on how the actual game feels playing it. Which is that it feels great -- exhilarating, in fact.

The atmosphere that developer Eidos-Montreal has created really is thrilling. You quickly find yourself so engrossed into thinking you're the world's greatest thief, and because of that I tried my hardest to be as sneaky as possible. Any time I would get caught I felt defeated, to the point I wanted to restart all over again.

Granted, you don't have to start over, and the actual combat is really cool. It's more that I wanted to try all over again to prove I can be the greatest thief there ever was.

Thief looks like everything I wanted Dishonored to be photo
Thief looks like everything I wanted Dishonored to be
by Steven Hansen

I liked Dishonored a lot, even if it didn’t turn out to be a literal ninja game. What I seem to have liked most about it, though, is its more tertiary elements. I love the fiction behind the world and its stylish, stylized aesthetic. On the mechanical side, however, I ended up being surprised that it didn’t feel like there was much more to it than playing, well, Thief, save for the empowering Blink ability and comforting knowledge that I could, if need be, literally kill everyone. Thankfully I’m not that bad at stealth.

Dues Ex: Human Revolution -- also from Eidos Montreal, though a different team than that which is making Thief. -- I liked less, for a variety of reasons best saved for another time.

What I’ve seen of Thief, on the other hand, looks like the stealth game I wanted those to be, despite some niggling concerns over yet to be nailed down attempts to make the franchise current and whatever other fan complaints have arisen since the first trailer was shown.
