Dying Light enabling wacky ragdoll physics for April Fools' Day

For April Fools' Day tomorrow, Techland is bringing extra floaty physics to its open-world zombie-slaying game Dying Light, which has me wondering, why isn't that a permanent cheat code? This is the sort of thing, weird and ...

Dying Light just made surviving the zombie apocalypse a whole lot tougher

When it comes to zombie outbreaks, it'd be foolish to go looking for a challenge. The easier you have it, the better. Why make a mockery of fate and scream "Come at me, bro?" It may be ill-advised, but Techland's giving thos...

Dying Light includes a strange recreation of World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros.

You can beat Dying Light with no weapons, just punches and dropkicks

Not long removed from Dying Light's recent release, one boy decided to play through the entire game engaging only its best elements. That is, running around and drop kicking fools. It's dubbed the Jean Claude Van Damme run and its the only correct way to play a game that has drop kicks.  More games need drop kicks.

Review: Dying Light

As you may have heard, we got our Dying Light review code pretty late. As in, the day before launch. A late show doesn't necessarily instill confidence in a project, especially since a lot of fans had no idea what to expect from Techland's latest. It's strange that this situation even happened considering Dying Light is one of Techland's best games outside of Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.

'I love this game. It's sooo awesome!'

Techland did its best to hold off on handing out Dying Light review codes until the day before release. That's never good. But Techland doesn't need to cherry pick reviews for box quotes when it can pay for them. No, this is the future. And the future is sooo awesome!

Dying Light is less about zombies and more about movement photo
Dying Light is less about zombies and more about movement
by Brett Makedonski

What can be done freshen up the zombie genre at this point? Videogames, television shows, movies, comics -- virtually every pop culture medium's been infested by the craze, long ago hitting a saturation (and then oversaturation) point. So, how does a developer like Techland, who's most well-known recently for its zombie games, take the concept and still manage to make it its own?

Techland's creating a game about zombies, that isn't really about zombies. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, that's what it's doing with Dying Light. And who knows -- maybe that's the take on the undead genre that'll liven it up a bit.

Dying Light wants to make a murderer out of you

Everything that we've seen of Dying Light thus far has looked neat, but kind of devoid of personality. It's just seemed like another zombie game with attractive running mechanics. This trailer bucks that trend and adds a bit of charisma. It also adds blood. Lots and lots of blood -- especially after the sun goes down.

Here's our latest look at Dying Light photo
Here's our latest look at Dying Light
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Techland has released this latest look at Dying Light, emphasizing what they're trying to achieve with the narrative. It also shows off the gameplay a bunch, and it's looking pretty great. Oh and hey there's a little girl about to get attacked by someone. Will that actually be in the game? Someone think of the children!

This trailer is kind of funny overall, as the studio was teasing some sort of announcement last week. The teaser just turned out to be a new trailer. People were hoping for a demo, or even better yet a release date. Who teases a trailer after multiple trailers have already been released?

Oh, Techland.

Dying Light is surprisingly fun, and pretty damn intense photo
Dying Light is surprisingly fun, and pretty damn intense
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Spencer Hayes and I got some quality time with Techland's Dying Light and we both came away pretty surprised from the experience. The game features a day and night cycle, and the day time stuff we played was pretty average. We knew what to expect, especially after playing games like Dead Island, another open world zombie game from Techland.

But then the night time stuff came up and holy crap the game gets super intense. More importantly, Dying Light becomes way more fun. The zombies transform in runner style zombies like the ones from Left 4 Dead and they become relentless in chasing you down. My heart was seriously racing as I tried to escape the horde, so they've certainly nailed down the horror aspect.
