That Metal Gear Online trailer is still so dang good

Steven covered this well-edited footage of Metal Gear Online in December, but here it is again with commentary by online community manager Robert Peeler. Yep, that's good enough for me. The balloon-firing trap shown at 1:54 is the stuff of dreams. Same goes for the enchanting plush puppy. (At one point it was going to be a "real" dog, but the designers didn't want us to shoot that.)

Metal Gear Online has Fulton sentries, puppy plushies photo
Metal Gear Online has Fulton sentries, puppy plushies
by Steven Hansen

I thought Metal Gear Online was neat on PS3 outside of Konami's separate log-in system. At the Game Awards, Hideo Kojima introduced a trailer for the online aspect of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear Online.

And it looks sweet as heck, just like Phantom Pain. A cute puppy plush has replaced MGSIV's nudie mag distraction trap, there's a mini, personal bipedal robot with a gun, Quiet-like stealth abilities, some sort of teleportation, and a sentry that shoots people with Fulton balloons, which you can shoot and pop before they send your teammate flying in the air.

Tons of cool-looking, idiosyncratic mechanics. I am so excited for Metal Gear Solid V.

Oh, and that selfie at the end.

Diamond in the ruff: MGSV: Phantom Pain in English photo
Diamond in the ruff: MGSV: Phantom Pain in English
by Steven Hansen

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's E3 showing stirred a deep love from within my belly. More games like this, I thought, stuffed with a wealth of deep and idiosyncratic mechanics. I missed the TGS Phantom Pain showing on account of being at TGS -- that's how it goes -- but now it's here, and in English.

The adorable, eye-patched wolf pup? A diamond in the ruff. Hahaha.

Much like the E3 demo, these TGS videos just make me sort of happy. And it's weird things that make me happy more than any Metal Gear fandom. I have a hard time remembering the overall plot, even characters, between games. But that backwards elbow crawl? Shooting helmets off? Using the distraction balloon to bounce a fool off a cliff? Fulton-ing everything? The god damn wolf puppy?! Yes, please.

Horseback riding and takedowns abound in this 21-minute MGSV demo
by Brittany Vincent

Previously we had a glimpse of Quiet's escapades with the full version of the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain teaser posted earlier this week. Now feast your eyes on this 21-minute gameplay demo straight from TGS 2014.

In the video, Quiet and Snake are infiltrating an outpost in what looks to be a jungle biome rather than the desert, and we finally get to see more of Quiet in action. I don't know about you, but I was waiting for an abundance of gameplay like this, and it's looking solid. Get it? I crack me up.
