Wonder Boy creator working on new Wonder Boy-esque game

While covering the action-adventure platformer Flying Hamster II last year, I said that fans of the Wonder Boy / Monster World series would want to take a look, and that's even more true today. The Kickstarter may have failed...

PS4 gets Bloodborne bundle in Europe, procedural Chalice Dungeons explained

Here's the lowdown on Bloodborne's procedurally generated Chalice Dungeons that are different depending on what item combination you use to summon them. It's different from Dark Souls' hand-crafted precision, but it could ke...

Review: Gunman Clive 2

I don't think anyone, including the game's creator, expected Gunman Clive to be such a massive hit. As an homage to retro platformers it was a joy to play, and the ridiculously cheap base price made it easy to take the plunge. Gunman Clive 2 delivers pretty much everything you'd want out of a sequel, even if it doesn't push the envelope.

Oh, nice, Future Press is doing a hardcover Bloodborne strategy guide

I know, I know -- you don't need a guide for Bloodborne just like you didn't need any assistance with Dark Souls or Demon's Souls or King's Field. You're that good. Or, more likely, you just wanted to go in as blindly as poss...

You can slice the Moon in half in next week's Hyrule Warriors DLC!

In this trailer overviewing the Majora's Mask DLC for Hyrule Warriors, we get to see Young Link don the Fierce Deity's mask and cut the Moon in half. My dark fantasy has finally been realized. There's more excitement abound:...

Here are all of Majora's remastered masks

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is coming to 3DS, if you've missed the hype around it or its limited edition New 3DS XL. Holmes wrote one of my favorite pieces of last year about it, right here. while Ben "bbain" Davi...

Years later, Torchlight II is almost ready for Mac

You mean to tell me 2012's action-RPG Torchlight II isn't already available for Mac? Oh. I see. Well, props to Runic Games for not abandoning the task, then. Maybe I'll play it on my next flight. The Mac version of Torchligh...

The Magic Circle tackles game development with clever satire

You ever wonder what it's like to be a character in a videogame? Most people would think of something pleasant like Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog, not someone from Resident Evil or Silent Hill. But what would it be like to be i...

Samurai Gunn gets free big update, Mac release

Samurai Gunn is great. It's a mainstay in my living room, especially with the backwards compatible PS1 taking a dive (no more convenient Bushido Blade). I also gave it a 2014 game of the year award even though...

Witcher 3 may have 'Insanity' mode, deletes your save upon death

I've always been fascinated with permadeath options in games. Witcher 3 might have a doozy. Witcher 3 senior game designer Damien Monnier and level designer Miles Tost recently streamed the game on Twitch and hosted...

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 brings Barry Burton and Raid mode center stage

Capcom has been on quite a roll lately. With the announcement of Street Fighter V, new releases in the Devil May Cry series coming, and the recent success of its HD Remaster for Resident Evil, it seems like the once trou...

Axiom Verge does speedrunning and gifs right

I had Axiom Verge on my mind earlier today when writing about Ghost Song, another promising Metroidvania. This slick gif ensures the game will remain there for the rest of the day. Designer Tom Happ included it in a blog post...

My first four hours with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It's an exciting time to be into role-playing games. With the release of heavy hitters such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dark Souls II, Divinity: Original Sin, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Wasteland 2 in recent years, the ...

You might be tempted to call Ronin 'Kill Bill: the Videogame'

Devolver Digital has a penchant for picking up clever game jam submissions and giving them a chance to grow into fully-realized titles. Titan Souls is a fine example, and it would have never had any exposure outside of t...

Toukiden: Kiwami has better abs on PlayStation 4

Between Toukiden: The Age of Demons and Freedom Wars, I'm slipping way behind on hunting/action games. Probably for the best, in the former case: Omega Force is coming out with an expanded version, Toukiden: Kiwami, that incl...

DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition goes above and beyond

It's been just over two years since the release of one of last gen's most polarizing titles. Back in 2010, Capcom made a bold and wildly unexpected decision to hand one of its most-loved franchises to a Western developer, and...
