Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on Wii Virtual Console photo

Fans of Castlevania, rejoice! It has been revealed that Hudson of all publishers is bringing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood to the Wii's Virtual Console some time soon. The game has been rated by the ESRB, so is ready to hit the Wii at any time.

Rondo of Blood was the tenth Castlevania game in the series, originally created for Japanese PCs. The game arrived to the West in its current form for the PlayStation Portable in 2007, and the title of the Virtual Console version would indicate that this is the ported version. If you want to know what it plays like, then you don't know much about Castlevania.

So there you are. Fun things happening.

FUCK YES!

The wording of "the title of the Virtual Console version would indicate that this is the ported version" is confusing, though, and may make Castlevania fans take pause. The first "port" was to SNES as Dracula XX (Dracula X in America), which couldn't compare. The second port was to PSP alongside the 2.5D remake, but this emulation had various issues with slightly fuzzy sprites and poor sound. What this version would be is the original Turbo Duo (a.k.a. PC Engine, not "Japanese PCs") version that was only released in Japan. Judging by the standards of Virtual Console emulation, this should play perfectly due to being the original, unlike the PSP emulation or the American SNES port.

I hope it's a port of the turbo graphics cd / turbo duo version. One of the best non-metroidvania entries.

I was just thinking what Necros said... but I would hardly consider the SNES Dracual X title to be a port. That game was inspired by Rondo of Blood for sure but it had completely different levels and everything so it's not a port in my opinion.

Nonetheless, this is great news as Rondo of Blood is my favorite Castlevania.

So are they going to add subtitles for the cutscenes or just carry over the dub from Dracula X Chronicles?

This would have been huge news if now for Dracula X Chronicles.

@ The-Excel,

Other previously Japanese-only titles I've downloaded from the Virtual Console came with no translations at all (which is pretty stupid in my opinion) but I would expect the same from this. If it is just the Turbo-Grafx CD game it will likely be unchanged but that's okay, I played the Japanese version and there is still English text in the menus so you can get around easy enough. The only issue is you will not understand any of the characters dialog.

Yeah! Another Castlevania title headed to the Wii? I'll take it.
Wii. You've been so good to me lately. Thank you.

I think Mr. Sterling meant that the first game in the entire Castlevania series were made for Japanese PCs, which really doesn't have much to do with Dracula X getting ported to a Wii.

Didn't know Ryu slayed Vampires when there weren't any fighting tournaments around. XD

@ BoneClawHugo

But that's wrong, as the first Castlevania game was made for NES (and was almost immediately remade for MSX and Arcade). Dracula X was originally made for PC Engine CD (a.k.a. the Japanese Turbo Duo, an upgrade of the Turbografx-16).

Hudson of all publishers is bringing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood to the Wii's Virtual Console some time soon.

From Wikipedia: "The PC Engine was a collaborative effort between the relatively young Hudson Soft (founded in 1973) and NEC."

Rondo of Blood was the tenth Castlevania game in the series, originally created for Japanese PC Engine, otherwise known as the Turbo Duo.

Fixed.
