Castlevania: Rondo of Blood confirmed for Virtual Console photo

Here's the news many of us North America-based, Castlevania-obsessed freaks have been desperately waiting for: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is finally making it Stateside thanks to a Virtual Console release. The ESRB gave us a heads up not long ago, but Hudson has gone on to confirm the good news.

Talking to Siliconera, a representative from Hudson said Rondo of Blood ought to be "released shortly" but not in English. Oh no, whatever will we do? There's so much important text in the older Castlevania games. How the heck will any of us know how to whip skeletons without intense instructions first?

Now that my sarcasm powers have been permanently depleted from overuse, let me say how excited I am to finally play a non-emulated non-shady version of this game on my TV. Anyone else pumped up by this confirmation?

I really want this on PSN. Or DS.

No XBLA/PSN love? Sad. Oh well, I'll have my Wii soon enough, and this will BE MINE.

Not really hard to understand why its not coming to PSN or 360. Count how many PC Engine games are on 360 and PSn before we start.

Right. They're only on Wii. Nintendo and Hudson have this thing going.

Very excited. Already have the game on the PSP, but I'll glad buy it again for perfect emulation.

Looks fun, but I suck as Castlevania so I don't think I'll get this. I still have bad memories from dying all the time in Order Of Ecclesia.

Jordan, you mean the PSP game Konami published back in 2007 was too shady for you? ;)

Didn't the PSP remake feature a fully translated emulation of the original version? The translation is 100% done. What excuse could they possibly have for releasing this game in Japanese?

Yeah, there was a psp version released that came with symphony of the night, so this is not the first english release of this game, and psp being region free it's easy to get and you can hook your psp to the tv.

I have read the PSP and some patch translated versions before anyway. I'm happy with just getting this game at last!

The fully translated PSP release was a remake, and the version of the original it had onboard as an unlockable was not a 100% perfect port (the problems mostly dealt with sound issues and added slowdown). This, based on the past experiences of PC Engine games on VC to date, should indeed be 100% perfect.

Though I couldn't tell you why they didn't include the translated sound files from the remake.

Loved it on the PSP, both the remake and the original (and of course SotN!)

I would still love to see a Castlevania collection on the DS or PSP of all Castlevania games prior to SotN...

Just because it's been a long time. This version is the PC Engine/TurboDuo version right? not the Snes version? I prefered the differences on the PC Engine more.

I can't wait for this. Every TurboGrafx CD/PC Engine CD game on the virtual console I've purchased was perfect, so I'm looking forward to seeing Rondo in its original glory.

What this really begs the question is why won't sony allow psp games to be played on the ps3?? I mean i bought the pspgp (i know, i know). Even got the tv cables and the fact you can play with a dualshock makes it seem like agood idea, but the tv cables plug into the charge hole (morons) so you can't play extended sessions like that. I know its capable because they allow the minis to be played on there. It just seems like theyre cutting into their own available profits by not doing that.

Jingajin is right, the reason why you'd want this version is its perfect emulation.

The reason why this isn't translated is because a modified/translated emulation for PSP can't have files taken from it and inserted with little effort into the original ROM. I'm admittedly no expert on this kind of thing, but that would require more work than publishers have made for VC in the past. There actually is some significant text, beyond previous Castlevania games, but it's perfectly possible to play the game without reading it.

Either way, considering that Konami had previously stated that it was done releasing additional games on the US VC, I'm glad to see that they made an exception (or maybe Hudson is footing the bill for the rerelease, which seems more likely).
