The writer's strike that is plaguing everything in the entertainment industry (excluding videogames) has now struck the Castlevania movie. Variety is reporting that Rogue Pictures had to halt production because the script needed additional work. Since they can't get anyone to work on the $40 million project, they have had to put the movie on hold indefinitely. The film's production was set to start in April in South Africa..
For some reason, I have always been oddly optimistic when it comes to videogame movies. I really don't want to pass judgment until I see it. It's hard not to just assume that the film will be fail anyway because of the track history of videogame movies. Not to mention that Paul Anderson has failed at videogame movies already.
Anyone sad that the Castlevania movies is is on hold until further notice? Or do you just not care at all?

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Anyway, so long as it doesn't turn out like Van Helsing or something.
You're right, they did sign a contract. And now that contract has run out. They are on strike so they can get a better, more fair contract this time around.
by the way, wasn't there a Devil May Cry movie confirmed YEARS ago?
HERO walks right, whips some SKELETONS. HERO tries to jump onto moving floating platform, but collides mid-air with a MEDUSA HEAD and falls off camera to his doom. Repeat.

OTOH, I am still looking forward to the animated Castlevania feature written by Warren (Fucking) Ellis. No idea when it comes out though.

I don't know if this necessarily means anything good or bad. I'm not a picky, pompous, self absorbed ass hat when it comes to watching movies. I was entertained by Transformers and the first two Resident Evil films. I also loved Tokyo Drift.
Workblog here. Beware, contains mention of fucking goats.
I lose.
I think he put the "W.S." in there to confuse people.
It's got to suck - the man thinks saying that he directed both Resi and AvP is [i]good
I don't think there anything stopping them from hiring writers outside the guild, after all i think most of the writing for like animated films is done by people outside the guild (though a few are done by the guild and it's one of the issues for the strike)... the question however, for new projects is can they find decent writers who are not part of the guild and for old projects can they find writers that can work with the previous writers' work? the problem for the industry is that most of the good writers are part of the guild, and the fact that a writer plays a major role in how good a film comes out; so it's generally not a good idea to hire just outside the guild
Writers join the guilds and unions and such for a reason, to make sure they get a good pay for their work, and they may also help in finding jobs for you... the downside to trying to work on your own is that you may not realize when your getting shafted and under payed for your work, as in you might make twice as much if you worked at the guilds prices... so for good writers, it's generally a very good idea to join some kind of guild

Free Games!
None, this will be no different.
Anyhoo, picture this with me....The ideal Castlevania movie production would have license to use music from the games. "Abandoned Castle" and "Garibaldi Temple" from Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, "Lost Paintings" and "The Tragic Prince" from Symphony of the Night, and of course a rendition of "Bloody Tears" in there. Now imagine exorbitant production values, for a big ole gothic castle set, a big bright moon and lots, lots of action set to the game music! How bad ass would that be?!
Fool me three times, shame on you. Fool me four, shame on me.
That would be it.
I honestly don't see this as a plague either, I'm truely, honestly, dare I say praying that these greedy fucks aren't re-hired and scabs take over. Fresh-blood = good.
I haven't seen a good episode of anything on TV since like 1995, remakes and movies based on comic books and CGI animation is garbage. Truthfully I thought they had already been on strike since 1990.
So what they're plaguing remains to be a mystery.
