Remember the Castlevania movie that Paul W.S. Anderson was working on? Well, it looks like that terrifying prospect may never come to pass. The project appears to have officially been consigned to the depths of development Hell, with reports that the film just isn't taking off.
Anderson's departure from the project signaled the death-knell, but Sylvain White stepped in to direct. However, the film was last seen being passed along to prospective new directors. Very much like Dracula himself, this movie's been dead on its feet for quite some time.
The Castlevania film was going to explore Dracula's origins and the rise of the Belmont bloodline. It was met with natural cynicsm from a gaming crowd that is tired of all the game-to-movie failure we've seen lately. At least this is one potential abortion that has been mercifully terminated.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Hey, any word on the much better sounding animated Castlevania? You know, the one that Warren "F*cking" Ellis wrote, and has in late months been quite about, after hinting that it might not go straight to DVD as planned, but perhaps see a theatrical release?
Lame! I'm enough of a fanboy of each series to appreciate the shred of entertainment these would have given.
A while ago the proposed screenplay to this leaked. I read through it, and didn't think it sounded half bad. I could just be biased though, as I'm one of the biggest Castlevania-heads there is. It could have been worse. Guess we'll never know how it would have played out.
And the ensuing nerd rage over how TERRIBLE they where would have been epic.
"potential" my ass. The movie is canceled before completion. That IS an abortion.
It's that other godawful game movies SHOULD have been abortions.
THIS
Thank you.
Cod damn I want to punch babies now
Get Guillermo Del Toro AND the guy who directed the fight scenes (or just directed the film) in Final Fantasy Advent Children, together, and that would be the sickest Castlevania film ever. Music by the proper Castlevania composer, Michiru Yamane, and monster designs by the actual game team who`ve made all the 2D iterations over the years. Sigh. In my dreams.
