Castlevania movie gets stake through heart? photo

Remember the Castlevania movie that Paul W.S. Anderson was working on? Well, it looks like that terrifying prospect may never come to pass. The project appears to have officially been consigned to the depths of development Hell, with reports that the film just isn't taking off.

Anderson's departure from the project signaled the death-knell, but Sylvain White stepped in to direct. However, the film was last seen being passed along to prospective new directors. Very much like Dracula himself, this movie's been dead on its feet for quite some time.

The Castlevania film was going to explore Dracula's origins and the rise of the Belmont bloodline. It was met with natural cynicsm from a gaming crowd that is tired of all the game-to-movie failure we've seen lately. At least this is one potential abortion that has been mercifully terminated.

Good riddence. Sounded like it was going to take a big sh!t on Castlevania's story, characters, and fans.

Hey, any word on the much better sounding animated Castlevania? You know, the one that Warren "F*cking" Ellis wrote, and has in late months been quite about, after hinting that it might not go straight to DVD as planned, but perhaps see a theatrical release?

First the Onimusha movie, now this.

Lame! I'm enough of a fanboy of each series to appreciate the shred of entertainment these would have given.

I'm glad this abortion is dead - it would've just been more mediocre trash like everything else Paul W.S. Anderson has done.

Everything that I had heard about this movie prior to this point makes me glad if it is indeed now dead.

Good. No more shitty films to destroy what image I have left of the games.

Great news. Yay! And I find it sad that movies NOT being made from stuff I like is a cause to rejoice.

@Tubatic : Dead on. I've been saying that for years.

A while ago the proposed screenplay to this leaked. I read through it, and didn't think it sounded half bad. I could just be biased though, as I'm one of the biggest Castlevania-heads there is. It could have been worse. Guess we'll never know how it would have played out.

Good news for everybody out there! Except for Paul Anderson.

I would have liked to see them.

And the ensuing nerd rage over how TERRIBLE they where would have been epic.

I don't think Richter Belmont was going to be in it. I won't miss it either.

"potential" my ass. The movie is canceled before completion. That IS an abortion.

It's that other godawful game movies SHOULD have been abortions.

I won't rejoice at this project getting killed, but I'll be totally apathetic about it.

Good riddance indeed, I read a script review somewhere and it sounded like shit and had very little to actually do with Castlevania (other than Dracula)

It was gonna be shit.

Get Guillermo Del Toro AND the guy who directed the fight scenes (or just directed the film) in Final Fantasy Advent Children, together, and that would be the sickest Castlevania film ever. Music by the proper Castlevania composer, Michiru Yamane, and monster designs by the actual game team who`ve made all the 2D iterations over the years. Sigh. In my dreams.
