Castlevania: Lords of Shadow gets screens, art photo

Konami has released a piping hot bag of screenshots and artwork for upcoming action game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The 3D take on the classic series has a shot of doing well, not least for the fact that it's being developed by the talented chaps at Kojima Productions. Maybe we can expect three-hour long cutscenes as Dracula criticizes the use of nuclear missiles.

Castlevania's never had the happiest experience with 3D perspectives, and its last big console game, Judgment, famously sucked even though our own Jonathan Holmes loved it because there is something wrong with him. It is with trepidation that we look forward to this one, but hopefully it will be good. Good games are good to play with the hands.

I don't think Lords Of Shadow is listed for the Wii Jim...

Unless I fucked up, if so, you may then make a front page blog about how much Daxelman fucked up.

(please let me have fucked up)

Wait, it's actually being developed by KP now? What happened to Mercury Steam, the guys who made Jericho?

I will buy almost anything with the name Castlevania, bur I skipped the last two 3d outings... This one looks fantabulous thus far and I have faith in Kojima Productions... here's hoping.

That would be funny if it was for the wii very low graphics and less enemies on the screen like Dead Rising chop till you drop *shudders*

These screenshots are kinda bland, and Mercury Steam hasn't made a good game yet, so I'm skeptical.

Nice to see this still looks awesome. Is there any release date for this yet? I think Mercury Steam are still on board, as we wouldn't want Kojima Productions to take all of the credit.

A Wii port? Yeah, alongside MGS9.

I just hope they tie this game's story to the other games, and have some awesome music.

I'm gonna wait until the reviews come in on this one. I've yet to be blown away by a 3D Castlevania and fear this will just be Devil May Cry with a paint swap. Then again, Patrick Stewart and Kojima Productions...

Give me Castlevania 2D or give me death.

Lament of Innocence was good, and Curse of Darkness was decent: 3D Castlevanias can work.

The whip combos gave LoI's combat a solid foundation. It just didn't build off it. And CoD had some great ideas like the Innocent Devil system and do-it-yourself weapons that you can whip up anywhere. What's not to like about having a big old magma man jogging merrily alongside you, helping bust some zombie skulls while you go wild with a lightsaber?

This game could be great if it actually uses some level design. The thing that killed the last 2 3D Castlevanias was how every room was just a square or a rectangle to fight stuff in. I'll be pumped if this isn't Castlevania: Hall of the Warrior 3.

Does Judgment even count? IDK, that's like saying Halo Wars was shit, therefore Reach might be shit.

Regardless, I'm skeptical of this game too. Platforming is a big part of what makes Castlevania so fun, and they tend to forget that in the 3D games. This does seem to have a more God of War feel too it..but after playing Bayonetta and Darksiders, LoD is going to have to surprise me somehow to earn my attention.

Good to see people still remember this is MADE BY Mercury Steam and OVERSEEN BY Kojima Productions.

Get your facts sorted out, Jimmy.

Why do people like crappy 2d side scrollers? Personally when I was a kid I played a little sonic, but when it came to real games I was playing wolfenstien, Doom, Quake, Unreal I always thought 2d side scrollers where more annoying than fun.

I feel sorry for those who grew up playing those pieces of crap.

@ Mildpooptastic

Most 2D iterations are better than their 3D counter parts, Sonic, as you referenced, is a very good example. Not a single 3D Castlevania has been better than a 2D Castlevania, and this game is most likely going to just be more garbage. Hell, it's nothing like any Castlevania before it, it's pretty much just another God of War clone. It's being made by the same "geniuses" who made Jericho and before that Scrapland, one very shitty and one very underwhelming. Kojima doesn't have shit to do with this game, or very little, they just slapped his name on there because they knew people would flock to it on his name alone.

I haven't seen any gameplay footage of Castlevania: LoS yet (I'm very optimistic), but did anyone else feel that Demon's Souls was kinda Castlevania-ish? Maybe Demon's Souls was not as fast or flashy, but they do have a lot of other similarities....

I'm so excited for this game, especially since Kojima Productions is behind the project! I've always liked Konami. They've seldom let me down.

Kojima Productions.... not making the game... stop getting everyone's hopes up...

It's just gonna be yet another DEVIL MAY CRY clone, because I refuse to refer to them as God of War clones, when Devil May Cry was first.

So what's Igarashi doing now anyways?

Looks OK, but can it really hold up to the likes of GoW III, Dante's Inferno, Bayonetta, etc...

Murcury Steam you guys. Not Kojima. All he is doing is certain story and graphics things, i.e. he changed the design of the characters face.
I was going to do an blog about this, but I didn't feel like is was cohesive enough, and in many way I felt like it demonstrated some of the traits shown in Jim "Video Game Fans" article, though only in minimal ammounts. I still question whether this will be a true Castlevania game or not.
