Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on its way to PS3? photo

Sources have told Siliconera that Konami's cooperative multiplayer game Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will be seeing release on the PlayStation Network. An Xbox 360 exclusive up until this point, Harmony of Despair was a challenging game which placed an emphasis on working as a team, as the game was just too damn hard to try and do anything else.

I can't say that I would be shocked to hear this announced by Konami at E3 next week and it would be great for PS3 owners to have a crack at Drac. I'll admit that I grew tired of playing it once the initial challenge wore off and it began to look like more of a grind than anything else, but I did have a lot of fun in the first week following release. I just hope that Konami has the courtesy to just release all the DLC and all at once.

I still haven't gotten the 360 version(I was going to buy it when it was on sale but Bangai O Hd seduced me)
I'll probably wait and get it on PSN if it comes with the dlc or any exclusive content.

Who cares?!

Lets face it. PSN is never coming back! and if it does, hackers will keep taking it down.

Sony fucked up when they went after Geohot and the other hackers.... those are people you just DON'T FUCK with.... even I know that, and I'm not a multi million dollar online entetainment business.

It all really sucks, especially since I'm about to finish L.A. Noire and I'll never get to use my DLC "Piano gun" in the main story.. Sony, leave those guys alone..... it's fucking suicide.... or sonycide or something ;)

Yeah, it was suicide to go after them. They should have done the smart thing, and let the hackers run wild on their system so that the PS3 could become the next Dreamcast/PSP.

Oh man that sounds gross. Coop castlevania grinding thingy on 3DS. Gross.
Now like a regular Castlevania on 3DS sure. But HoD? Sounds gross.

They should only be so lucky, the Dreamcast is one of the most loved consoles out of the past and the PSP is still selling. The hackers are already planning another attack, PSN isn't coming back. Sony fucked up, brains will always win in this case.

I'm just hoping to one day play this with other living breathing human beings...well ones I've talked to. I've only played online once and it seems like the game needs some co-operation to do effectively. Looks like never then.

HoD is possibly the worst Castlevania. Its impossible to make any decent progress unless you play multiplayer online, you are constantly under pressure due to playing with others and a timer that cannot be paused, and the volume and pricing of DLC on XBL was ridiculous.

Honestly, PS3 gamers shouldn't be too anxious. This game is straight up boring as hell. I bought on sale during a deal of the week. It feels more like a chore to play than actually having fun. If you have symphony of the night, I wouldn't even bother playin this. Also Nevi is right, the prices for DLC were ridiculous.

@ Nevi:
Agreed, if you buy all the DLC (which you have to because the next best items/increased drop rates are there, and if you don't buy them you play in a online ghost town) it adds up to $50 USD. I don't know about anyone else, but the title is not worth 50, even after buying it day 1 I still regret doing so.

If you play this game hardcore, and research a bit before you jump in, it can be really fun (like DotA) with the right crowd.

Otherwise, like Nevi said, it sucks.

They need to fix what's broken about the online co-op - the inability to drop-in/drop-out freely, for example, is essential to a game like this and it still hasn't been addressed.

That and it being the bastard spawn of the GBA/DS games, but that's another subject. For those that enjoy the complete bastardization of some great games and piecemeal DLC worse than a Bioware game, the co-op needs fixing.

Wow. Well, HATERS GON HATE I guess.
I've love me some Nintendo DS Castlevania and I wasn't expecting much from Harmony. Having set the bar so low, I was hooked. This game was like crack for me.There are atleast half a dozen people on my friends list I made just because of Harmony. So, congrats PS3 guys - get yer grindage on!

Nevi is right - unless you're playing with other people (and really, even if you're playing with other people), it's a grind-a-thon. There's nothing really fun about it, and you never really earn anything good for anyone unless you plan to put multiple hours playing the same stage over and over again for minimal, luck-based payoff. I'd like this game more for giving you rare items easier and in single-player...but between this and the REE-GODDAMN-DICULOUS DLC prices, I couldn't recommend this game to anyone.

PSN? When might that be? Need a functioning store for that to happen. Never picked it up on xbla, perhaps I can get it free with Plus.

This is a great game. I went back on playing it after the DLCs were released. I bought them all when they went on sale and love to play the symphony and castlevania 1 stages.

Recommend, despite the normal DLC prices.

Again, for millionth time, hackers did not physically take the store down. their intrusion Gave Sony reason to take it down.

What satisfaction do you get from being a hacker fanboy anyhow? I would think someone who continually posts on a website "for gamers. By gamers" would be objective about the situation. Use logic and stop handjobbing a bunch of people who don't give a fuck about the industry. If geo-hotz and Sony settled, and the little shit has personally condemned the actions that brought the network down, what cause is there for a "war"? It's selfish, destructive, and childish.

I don't even know why I bother.

This is a game you need to play when everyone is playing it. It saw moderate success on 360, but the lack of packing mics for most users on pen will really hurt the experience. Games of this type are as much about chatting with friends while doing something rather than just playing the game. Playing with friends online is a requirement for enjoyment. If you don't have that its probably not worth your time...

I found it a fun game, offline and on. But I enjoy really challenging 2d games and am a castlevania 2d fiend. The dlc was bad, but when it was all on sale I grabbed everything I had wanted. Still play it an will buy it again for my ps3.

Maybe if they sold it for a reasonable price with the full game included this time...

They really ought to include all the DLC. It was somewhat cynical of them to reuse so many old assets to make a new game, but it was even more cynical to take sprites from NES games and call it new content.

I love metroidvania games but I didn't really like this. Just felt thrown together. Recycled graphics from DS games, and it doesn't even really feel like castlevania. When are they gonna make a real current-gen 2D Castlevania game? They did Hard Corps and it was AMAZING. I know they can do Castlevania.
