Castle Crashers: King's Pack DLC announced for tomorrow! photo

If you're willing to forgive and forget the whole "I waited half a year for a God damn patch" thing, then you'll be thrilled to know that The Behemoth is unleashing its first DLC pack for Castle Crashers, the King's Pack.

Costing 160 Microsoft Points and releasing Wednesday, January 14, the King's Pack includes the following:

  • Two playable characters -- The King and an Open Faced Gray Knight.
  • The King's Heal Spell, which heals everybody in the party.
  • Three new weapons, one of which is the Gold Sword.
  • A new animal orb named Pelter.

I'm not sure if I'll be getting it myself, at least anytime soon, since I stopped playing CC long before it was patched (the fact that the bug finally did wipe all my data in the end hasn't helped). However, for those encouraged to keep it up, this is sure to be great news.

Perhaps once the Necromancer makes his playable appearance, we can talk.

Is this all for this week's XBLA?

120 pts sounds reasonably cheap for this.

Cotton: In all fairness to The Behemoth, it was Microsoft that took its time releasing the patch. The developer had that patch ready to go shortly after the game's release.

Pretty weak DLC for all the time they had to work on it IMO. Unless they add more levels, I doubt that I would be interested in spending any more money on that game.

Offline wasn't that broken. Only time my data was wiped was when I switched HDDs since my 360 was broken. but that's more of the issue with DRM than the game.

I wish they were new cool levels or something. The later levels like the ice one were meh.

I might get this though, since I have some leftover points from when I bought the game.

The open faced gray knight? Can't they just put another good character in this to make it a sure thing? The King deserves better, the old bastard.

I'll buy that for a few dollars!

All this DLC to get you through the winter slump. This is very interesting . . .

EITHER WAY, you're spending about the same amount for the DLC. don't see what the big difference over 40 points...unless you're 10 points shy of leftover points.

Well they must have had a really shitty patch also if it took this long to clear MS's QA.

Hopefully the new weapons will be useful as I find that 90% of them suck big.

I tried playing this online the other day and was still getting bad connection issues and lag. Some games just ended and led me straight back to the title screen mid session and I was hosting so I wasn't kicked.

$1.50 DLC? I'm down with that. You can't reasonably complain about that.

I got my data wiped after I had to get my 360 returned, but got it back after the 'sign out of live and sign back in at the character select screen' trick that I remembered reading somewhere. as far as the DLC goes, I'd rather spend this much on a couple characters than twice this much on a theme, and I probably will.

For people still complaining about online issues: play with an actual friend sitting next to you. It will be more fun, and you can't lag out IRL.

I think they had more than this planned. It kinda sucks that they waited this long and not released everything. Or, at least everything that people have discovered on the 'net. But, yeah, more money.

I beat this game, then lost all my data, then lost all my interest ... they should pay me 160 MS points to play this game.

From their website:

Other weapons in this pack are going to be the King's Scepter and the Newgrounds Lollipop. New spells include: King's Healing, Gold Knife, Healing Magic, Kingley Jump. (I'm assuming the Open Faced Grey Knight will have the same magic as the regular one). Pelter is the Seal orb. Also, the pricing is set by Microsoft, Behemoth would rather it be free.

I like the game and I may end up getting this, but I think it would be a nice gesture to make it be free.

It's really easy to say "MS held onto the patch" or "MS sets the prices" but how do we know that is true? Because the Behemoth said that they sent the patch months before it was released, it was true and we all blame MS? I've heard this before about the pricing, too, but then how come Burnout Paradise can make legitimately valuable DLC and have it be free? Are we to believe that MS lets *some* people decide whether their DLC is free, and not others?

woah dudes... forget how long it took them to fix our game we bought from them?
sorry. but screw behemoth... i LOVED them before.

but no. sell me a broken game. out comes the bobycott

to all game devs out there, treat us like garbage?. expect the same in return.

zing!

P.S. And if MS does set prices for DLC or tell devs that they "can't" release DLC for free, why are we always applauding Burnout Paradise so much?

@ akathatoneguy: I'd be willing to bet EA/Criterion has to pay MS for those free updates, from what I've read about the process. The Behemoth doesn't have quite as deep pockets. And yes, the patch was done quite a while before the certification process went through. It took a while to finish because there's only a handful of people working for Behemoth. Also, the smaller the developer the lower the priority for MS to get things done, even for a title as high-profile as CC. That's the way it works.
