Castle Crashers is officially 1200 MS points: Enjoy! photo

After the controversial rumors about price points for XBLA titles Braid and Castle Crashers, people have been eagerly awaiting an announcement from The Behemoth regarding the latter's true cost. Braid, as we all know, hit Xbox Live at 1200 points, but there were fears that the Castle Crashers price could be even more excessive. Those fears can be put to rest, however, as Dan Paladin has officially confirmed 1200 MS points for the upcoming co-op action game:

Hello everyone on the internet!
The price for Castle Crashers will be 1,200 Microsoft points. This month’s only online multiplayer XLA game launches on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008, so get ready to grab some friends and prepare to smash stuff!

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto

Thank you

Love you

So there you go. These new expensive prices may leave a sour taste in the mouths of some, but after Braid launched at 1200 points, there was no way Castle Crashers would be any cheaper. It looks like XBLA has officially adopted 1200 as a far more regular pricing tier, which I shall dub the "Microsoft knows it can make people pay this much" tier. It shall likely be reserved for the few XBLA titles that gamers actually want. At the very least, the considerable buzz surrounding The Behemoth's game suggests that it will be very much worth the extra four hundred points of pretend Monopoly money.

No, it doesn't have online multiplayer, but it should of. Also, I figured this would happen, but it's the best thing I've read all day.

If they charge that amount for Super Street Fighter II Turbo Remix they can go fuck themselves.

This IMHO is a perfectly acceptable price for Castle Crashers, if it is as deep in content as they say it is.(thats what she said)

since i thought it was going to be 1600, 1200 *seems* like a deal, but now i'm pissed because that was probably their plan all along. that said, 1200 for a game with high replay value is more ok in my book than 1200 for a single experience (Braid). and yes, i'm one of those that are avoiding paying the higher prices for fear that they will become the new standard.

I would imagine the reason 'BC: Rearmed' can exist at $10 is due to having backing from a multi-million dollar corporation in Capcom. 'Braid' and 'Castle Crashers' are both independent products financed from their own pockets (Newgrounds likely brings in quite a few ad dollars, but it is still not Capcom money).

Do want.

Thanks a lot Braid!

Seriously though, at first I had a problem with MS introducing this new 1200 point price standard. But for me, as long as the game is worth it, I'll bite. Meaning, if MS decides to set the price at 1200, they better make damn sure it's high quality and has replay value.

One thing they need to watch out for is that, with each new standard they try to establish (2000 points and up), it's gonna get harder and harder to convince people to accept it. I wish this were the cut off point, but I know they're pushing for digital distribution.

Can you guys feel it? It started a long time ago, but I'm only realizing it now.

Lol Lemon. People are retards, EOF. They've just never played this game, and do not yet realize the omnipotence being bestowed upon them.

I understand that people are concerned that game prices will balloon out of control if the trend continues, but... God, you people are cheap.

If the title is good and I can try before I buy, then $15 is just fine by me. Hell, the price alone makes up for the ability to try it out instantly, because trying things first saves me a ton of money in the long run. I can't tell you how many times I've bought ShareWare shoot-em-ups on the PC for $20 or more.

I just wish I could pay extra (yes, even MORE cash) and get the games on a disc. Having to buy a fixed denomination of points really ticks me off, and I want to own a game, not just play it. I happily snapped up the Arcade Unplugged compilation just to get Geometry Wars on a disc, and I really wish Microsoft would release more compilations.

The Bionic Commando demo didn't really last long enough to get a proper feel. But man, this is the Wednesday after Reading so I'm going to be broke.

@Gynecologist Cobra

Pricing standards have to start somewhere. I'm simply viewing this as the introduction of the 1200point standard. Yes, there are about three games at that price, but I know you don't seriously think those are the only games that are going to be priced like that.

Like HarassmentPanda said, it's shifting up and it's inevitable.
