Carcassonne is the second board game to be turned into an Xbox Live Arcade title. As always, it'll be available this Wednesday for, you guessed it, 800 Microsoft Points. If you're one of those guys that enjoys Carcassonne in real life, you'll be pleased to know that its virtual counterpart will include the "Rivers II" expansion set and both online and offline multiplayer. For everyone else: this game supports the Live Vision camera, so I think you know what to expect.
More specifically, Carcassonne features the following:
•Special AI settings to challenge any skill level
•Challenge your friends – Up to five players can play over Xbox LIVE or up to four players can play on the same Xbox 360
•Interact with new and old friends alike over Xbox LIVE while you play "Carcassonne" with the Xbox LIVE Vision camera
•Helpful step-by-step tutorial to teach you the game in minutes
•Skill-based matchmaking for ranked games
•The complete "Carcassonne" includes 72 tiles and all rule sets
•"Carcassonne" includes the "Rivers II" expansion set - 12 additional tiles
•Earn up to 200 Gamerscore and 12 Achievements
I was never able to get into Catan due to the fact that I have the attention span of a -- oh sh*t, a giant wasp just landed on my desk -- wait a second, what was I saying again? Ah yes, my attention span problem. If I'm lucky, I might be able to force myself to get through the tutorials and learn how to play Carcassonne.
How about you guys? Are you into this kind of game, or would you rather have something else come out this week?

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I remember the good ole days of boardgaming though (Axis & Allies, HeroQuest, Dark Tower, Talisman)... here's to hoping they bring many more of these to XBLA.
Artadius: mmm... x-box live axis and allies.
What xbl arcade needs next is Battleships!
Just one Question. Do I need to interact with my opponents in order to win?
If so I think I'll pass, nothing sucked more in Catan than walking into a game and playing three guys who immediately put a bullseye on your back. DO NOT WANT!
You're strategizing, but there's not as much you can do to manipulate the other player into making bad choices, unlike Catan. However, there are definitely clever ways to 'break' other players development efforts in your favor.
That said, there's a *huge* luck factor in Carcassonne, unlike Catan where the dice only factor into production. The luck here factors into the entire nature of your turn & what you can do.
It's much much lighter than Catan, and I think it'll be more popular. And yeah, here's hoping for Puerto Rico, which will be the polar opposite and rather difficult for new players, although more engaging for everyone who plays.
