Staring up at flat panel screen playing an announcement trailer for Bionic Commando's multiplayer mode, the game's producer Ben Judd sarcastically told me he didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned it. In fact, that's the same thing he told me months ago when we first saw the game at GDC.
So it was no surprise, but pleasant nonetheless, when the next day it was revealed that Bionic Commando would contain a multiplayer mode when it hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC later this year. Up to ten players will take on the role of an ESA Soldier in the games online mode, and will take full advantage of the game's swing mechanic, which should add an interesting new layer of depth and strategy.
While the mode wasn't playable, we were told that it would feature the standard online gametypes, like deathmatch and capture the flag. When I suggested that time-trials might be fun using the game's swing mechanic, Judd told me that they'd been considering a race-like mode for multiplayer. We were also told that the title would have full support for detailed stat tracking, and would in some way be integreated with Capcom's online community.
I'm was really digging the game's swinging mechanic in single-player, and I can see it translating to quite a bit of fun online. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they'll be letting us get our hands on it anytime soon; multiplayer likely won't be playable at this year's E3.
@NotAZombie: I hope you're not saying Crackdown wasn't a good game, 'cause it's definitely one of the most fun and enjoyable (let alone addictive) experiences you can have on the 360, hands down.
HOLY SHIT! I never even thought about multiplayer for this game but that looks fucking awesome. I'm officially buying this now but only if I can yoink the Pink Ranger from B-Radicate.
It looks like the kind of game that gives sublime satisfaction when it's mastered, kind of like the HL1 mod The Specialists.
This looks very enjoyable and compelling. The movement dynamics will hopefully be something like Tribes where you can really get a full head of steam going. Any time a deathmatch style game can add elevation as a combat factor I'm all over it.
Im a big fan of Lost Planet and this looks like the evolution of that games combat engine. This makes me want to pick this game up but Im never gonna shell out more than $60 for another capcom game anymore.

I thought the same thing to while watching that video.
I now realize what I was describing.
Also, I shotgun Pinky.
Oh no, I loved Crackdown but IMO it needed vs multiplayer.
Also looks like it's hard as hell to actually hit anyone, but also looks fun
needs MOAR rocket launchers.
The graphics look like IRON MAN! (the game)
nie addition to the single player.
