Captain Obvious: No Master Chief in Halo ODST photo

MTV Multiplayer asked Bungie's Brian Jarrard whether the Master Chief would be making an appearnce in Halo ODST. The answer: No. Duh. ODST takes place on Earth in between the events of Halo 2 and 3. The Chief is off on another Halo in some distant galaxy during this time so obviously he won't be appearing in the upcoming sidestory.

If you are wanting some more Master Chief in your life, then you'll just have to wait for Halo Reach. The Chief, or a bunch of other SPARTAN IIs, should have a starring role in Reach. Seriously, go buy the first Halo book. It's really good.

Hmm. I was at the very most expecting a Chief cameo at the start or the end of the game... probably when he either arrives or leaves New Mombasa (when the Covie ship pretty much wrecks the place)

Dare might be a Spartan. Probably not a Spartan II though. Her helmet looks somewhat like an Mjolnir Scout helmet and she just suddenly joined the ODST squad and took command of it. If she's a Spartan I then she probably can't wear all of the power armor. There are rumors that Sergeant Johnson might be a Spartan 1 too.

I dunno.

But Bungie seems to be building a mystery around Dare.

I have a feeling that Dare is an ONI Spook, Mulk.

And no, that rumor is ridiculous. He won't be a Spartan 1. Go check out the I Love Bees saga and you'll understand why.

I actually just started re-reading the Halo novels after seeing the trailer for Reach. I'm on "First Strike" right now and I forgot how much I loved these books. Oh yeah, and I'm happy that the Master Chief won't be making a cameo. I was sure they were gonna find some way to shoe-horn him into a cutscene or something.

I'm pleastantly surprised! At least they have the common sense to make a sipn off game where the main character is not the main character. I would be OK to have him in there but this is even better.

I feel confused. i cannot for the life of me understand why so many people play Halo....

I've tried. Multiple times, and I just fucking hated every minute of it.

It was flat out fucking stupid.

I think i'm just not the pow pow zap zap laser gun type. It's not even fanboyishness because it's the exact reason i hate Resistance too, fucking stupid weapons.

Sure, it's a half decent zap zap pow pow game, but for it to have the following it does really does confuse me.

I personally put it down to "Halo is our fanboy exclusive, we've got to love it so that we can say ha ha you don't get Halo" - that's the only reason i can think that anyone over 13 would like that game.

It's funny, my brother has most of the Halo books and he has never read 'em or played the game. I fully intend to break them in after I finish Diablo's Sin War (on the last volume). The ones I've read based on Diablo are pretty decent to me. If you all like fantasy/fiction based on games I recommend them. Also "War of the Ancients" for WoW I think was pretty good trilogy. It's a good way to kill time in my opinion.

As much as I dislike Halo and love Master Chief, after playing ODST at E3, I can say the game is better without him this time. I may actually purchase ODST, if that means anything to anyone...
