Captain Obvious: Mass Effect 3 will be the end of trilogy photo

Mass Effect 3 is a thing that is planned to happen. And it appears Bioware is excited to do it. At a recent press event, ME2 project director Casey Hudson said as much, adding that the sequel-sequel should be a bit more fun.

And why? Because ME3 is the end of the trilogy -- Bioware won’t have to toss in hooks for player saves and address what players do in another game. Go figure.

Mass Effect 3 will be easier because we don’t have to worry about the continuity into the next one,” Hudson told Shacknews.

It’s odd to talk about the end of the series before the second iteration is even in our hands. It's even odder when you consider how much the ME universe is worth to both Bioware and its publisher partner, EA. We’re guessing we’ll see more of ME post-ME3. Unless, of course, Bioware blows up the galaxy or something.

A well-done Mass Effect movie would be a great way to continue the franchise after ME3. Heck, Bioware already has created all the info you would need to bring the universe into film.

I know Bioware only wants to do a trilogy but EA may force them to make more after that. Though at that point I think we'd play a different protagonist

Even though this is pretty obvious, it makes me kinda sad to know that such a rich and unique game universe will come to an end.

I think Mass Effect is just as much of a trilogy as Halo is.
Only Bioware actually have other franchises to work with, unlike Bungie, so there might be hope that this actually is just a trilogy.

Mass Effect's initial trilogy will end Shepard & Co's story. I have no doubt that there'll be more games set in that game's "universe", but they'll branch off into soething new/different for ME4. Hell, even if BioWare doesn't do it themselves, there's always Obsidian.

Bioware amped up the abilities and weapons of Commander Sheppard for Mass Effect 2 because of course any sequel must have more firepower to be worth playing according to some knuckle-dragger concept of video game validity. Which makes me wonder, if the same "logic" continues then will Sheppard be God by the third installment of the series?

they said from the start it would be a trilogy, looks like they just had to remind some people that had forgotten... The story was written as a trilogy from the start so it's not really a wonder :-)

If they were to ever make a film I think it would be about the first contact war between the humans and the Turians. They've intentionally left that story untold, even in the novels. It would be a great introduction to the universe as the protagonists will learn all about Citadel space along with the audience. It could also work as Astana alone story for a general audince and not just fans of the game series.

I think the trilogy is over, but they'll make other games with different characters and storylines in the same world. At least they should.

They've always planned on a longer series, but the 3 games wrap up the story of shepard and his crew.

I wish to Christ that `This is a thing that happened` would GO. AWAY. Suuuuch a lame meme.

Oh well.

On topic, I can't wait to see how ME ends. But I'm more excited to play ME2 first.

Gotta love trilogies. Totally makes the second game worthless.

I don't think I'd call God of War 2 worthless. That's kind of like calling The Empire Strikes Back worthless, isn't it?

I'm hoping it's the end and they don't jam it up with spinoff crap.

I am ok with further installments as long as they are good. Some franchises can keep the quality high as the sequals and spin offs pile up, look at ratchet and clank, call of duty, the million Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Metroid
