Captain Obvious: Manhunt 2 has been been postponed photo

So here's a shocker, Take-Two has announced that Manhunt 2 won't be coming out July 10 as previously planned:

"Take-Two Interactive Software has temporarily suspended plans to distribute Manhunt 2 for the Wii or PlayStation platforms while it reviews its options with regard to the recent decisions made by the British Board of Film Classification and Entertainment Software Rating Board," a representative told GameSpot. "We continue to stand behind this extraordinary game. We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment."

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Thanks to Nintendo and Sony not allowing AO rated games on their system and the BBFC banning it all together, Rockstar had to delay the release of the game. So what's going to happen now? Like I said yesterday, if Rockstar wants this game to come out, then they're going to have to appease the ratings board. That, or do what some of you readers were suggesting yesterday and make a PC port of the game.

They're not going to port it. If the reviewers that got an advance copy at gameandvideomagazine.com or whatever lauded the Wii control options and their immersiveness (actually a word?) it's going to come out on the Wii, even if the severed heads spray rainbows instead of blood.

And it doesn't matter how much it sucks after it's hacked up to meet the probably doubly strict standards on the second go 'round, it'll sell like pussy in vegas, because it was A Banned Game! and every little unparented retard is going to lie, cheat or steal to get to play it. Oh, censorship. Falsely relieving parents of responsibility for a hundred years.

I'm with namelessted. But regardless of what happens, I hope an uncut version eventually gets released on the PC. (@TheStripe: there is no WiiMote for the PS2...)

I'm really glad non-gamers are making decisions about what I should play. It's obvious that I can't make decisions on my own, being 27 and all.

Hmm, now that I have nothing to take my aggression out on, does anyone else feel like going out and killing people?

Ya know what really sux is the fact that they wont put out games that are AO!!! I mean I would venture to say that adults are the primary people who can afford and play the PS3 any way!!

Hey guys i work at a gamestop and we get daily e-mails regarding store procedures and video game news. Today we were sent one that had a tidbit about manhunt 2 and the news regarding that it was receiving the AO rating. What was stated was that "take two assured us the game will receive an m rating".
Take that for what it's worth, apparently take two has contaced retailers letting them know the game will eventually be released as an M rated game.

That Photoshop job is awesome.

I just wrote a blog post on my thoughts about the AO rating:

This whole situation is getting me pissed.

I watched a part of a Tyra Banks show once, and she was trying to "save" this WoW player who was ignoring his wife and kid. Tyra gets him in front of a national audience and of course the guy says he'll stop playing. To prove it, Tyra made him put some WoW installation discs through a shredder. They didn't bring his computer in and delete it, or make him cancel his subscription or anything like that.

This is a perfect example of the ignorance non-gamers have. It is they who don't understand reality.

I really think it suck that Sony and Nintendo wont let AO games on their consoles, or for that matter, have any control over what is games are made for their consoles. It's that kind of crap that keeps video games in general seen "toys" and not as art.

What if a company made a DVD player that wouldn't play NC-17 movies, or movies made by a certain company, or independant films, or what not? Who would buy that DVD player?

Artist need to be the ones in control of their art, not hardware manufacturers.

If I worked at Rockstar, I would have the edited Manhunt 2 released with all the AO stuff unlockabe with cheat device, or better yet, a timed "glitch" that releases all the content 2 years after the game is released.

That would be impossible to program, but it would be awesome.

I'm gonna do the exact samething Ted. I can't believe they actually banned it. I'm sure the content isn't much worse than the first. This whole situation is absolutely retarded.

QUICK SOMEONE CALL PETER MOORE!!!!!!! This is an excellent opportunity for xbox to get 1 up on the other consoles by saying F$ck you p#ssies we'll take any game and honor it's Adults only rating... then their sales will boost do to the fact that it is a gaming system for everyone(including us adults only). I was hoping to buy the wii version of this game and take out my daily stress on some dumb thug just waiting to have his face bagged and neck broken. but playing on the 360 would suffice. OH yea the peter moore thing....he wants to flaunt the gta4 tattoo in all the gaming mags how bout someone photoshop the manhunt2 logo on his arm and send it to him. he'll get the idea. if u stand behind rockstar so much then SHOW US!!!!!!!!!

Something tells me thatR* will edit it like THQ did with the Punisher game and eventually there'll be a Gameshark code that lets us see this game in all its gruesome glory.

I really wish that, when posting stories regarding Sony and Nintendo's refusal to allow AO rated games on their consoles, they'd also point out the Microsoft doesn't allow AO rated games, either. It would keep the amount of retarded 'ZOMG MS SI T3H WINNAR PUT TI ON TEH XBOCKSTHREESIXTEA!!' comments to a minimum.

Microsoft does not allow AO content, either. For the love of God, do some reading before spouting off.

What Oni said, I was about to post the same. This is all about avoiding bad PR. One AO title on a console from any of the three, and every morality cop out there would be on them like Electro Lemon on some purple drank.

it sucks to see the company giving in. it's funny that the three consoles don't allow AO games, because in reality it's the hardware people that need the developers, not the other way around.

eh, whatever. i'm still buying this game, even if big brother is watching

It just pisses me off that a hand full of people are in control of my gaming experiences, saying what or what not to play. Fuck that man. I think the only persons to rate games are parents, deciding to let their children play a game or not. Not asinine bastards like the BBFC. Makes me feel like I wanna pull a plastic bag over one of their heads!

LOL... Best photoshop I've seen in a long time.

Personally, I think they should make the actual game that way.

Then again, I would die laughing before getting very far...
