That makes sense.
I am so afraid this is what will happen to Mass Effect. Let it die Bioware/EA. The value will actually increase. Trust me.
Sony and Microsoft had the benefit of no legacy the couple gens. But Kratos and Master Chief are turning into the Mario and Sonic of the new generation. I couldn't think of anything more boring. Trilogy and out is a good run for a franchise then maybe skip a gen or two and do a revival.
I wouldn't mind some game similar to black and white with olympic gods + kratos and the skele army
Poseidon charges on a gigantic water monster

If this keeps up, Kratos is going to have to start working through other pantheons. The Aesir & the Vanir. The Tuatha De Danann. The Seven Lucky Gods. The aspects of Brahman. They could go on and on.
Personally, I'm not worried until they a) just rehash the Greek pantheon with their Roman names or b) the demo for God Of War Umpteen finds you fighting a flying spaghetti monster and foreshadows an eventual showdown with JR "Bob" Dobbs.
Seriously... I think it's time for them to think about stopping the franchise there. God of War is a formidable action game series, but in no way they have the Miyamoto-ness required to spin original sequels one after the other. Players will get progressively more uninterested, this isn't Mario or Zelda.
Wait a minute... THAT'S THE TWIST!
The characters would include Kratos, the Norse gods, and 15 different well-endowed Hookers.
God of War 4 will surely be called "God of War - Not so Modern Warfare", breaking the chain of sequels and resulting in commenter backlash when referred to as #4 in the series. Chaos and confusion ensues.
Star Wars made it cool.
Blame George Lucas for that...
as well as Millions of childhood memories raped into oblivion.
What are you talking about?
@molath: I think Kratos v/s Mohammed would certainly net them more free press/death threats.
I think what he means is when a trilogy hits that third game it should die and I agree.
Even though technically this is the fourth game you know what I mean.
Then what's the point of calling it a trilogy?
The way I see it it's more valuabe, more of a treasure, when you stick to traditional trilogy means. It has a beginning and a end. I know more can be done in the universe but I guess what I'm saying is don't call it God of War and don't use Kratos.
I'm sick of trilogies with a million sequels.
If more can be done with universe and use a well established name for the monies, so what? I'm fairly sure Kratos who essentially IS the God of War anyway you want to look at it (considering his taking up the role is what brought on another 2 massive games) and the fact he's looking to bring down Olympus which would have a huge impact on any future games, the name is still quite relevant.
You know, considering he (presumably) killed all the GODS. And if the secret ending showing the chopper and titan is anything to go by, it's a big deal even in a fictional modern day setting.
Yeah. I dunno. I'm not an anti-sequel guy normally but...I dunno. This trilogy + a million squel business is bothersome. Just don't call it a trilogy. End one arc, move on to another, but don't call it a trilogy. It gives the impression of an ending. Or maybe that's me.
Oh wait.. money, I forgot.
