There were quite a few disappointed faces greeting yesterday's news that God of War: Collection won't be coming to Europe until 2010, if indeed it comes at all. Luckily, however, Sony has provided some good news for those with an eye to importing the game. It will be region-free.
This is something most people had anticipated, since practically every PS3 game ships this way. It's one of the best decisions Sony ever made, and it of course means that those in Europe who are desperate for some old school Kratos action all up in their Blu-ray can import the game from a reputable dealer or cutthroat mercenary operating out of the back of his brother's van in East Croydon.
Those with a more patient disposition can just wait until some time next year.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I bet european sales will suffer for being late.
"Any stores that sells games or peripherals of Sony consoles to anyone living in Europe will get sued so fast you'll not get up again... ever. Remember I did it once I'll do it again"
got rescinded.
It certainly does nothing to improve customer relations! For every bonehead question like this, I'm sure Sony decide not to tell us their reasons and methods for doing something else?
"Why aren't we getting GoW for Christmas Sony EU?"
"LOL I DUNNO, ASK ME IF IT'S REGION FREE"
It's obvious I skimmed the original article now. Completely read past the statement, "This is something most people had anticipated, since practically every PS3 game ships this way."
Must get sleep. :(
Yep, it's obvious but it's just a nice FYI for those disappointed. Also, there have been some worries about region-locked PS3 games lately, most notably Bayonetta.
Didn't know there were worries about region locking. I actually bought a PS3 for the lack of locks to begin with, so I'm actually kind of perturbed to hear that they're thinking about it.
As for Bayonetta though, I'm not too keen on it, which is probably why I didn't hear much about the region locking to begin with.
At fist was because of different TV standards.
Now it's mostly regional sales figures, and sometimes censorship.
