Capcom videogame music soundtracks coming to North America photo

In Japan, you can walk into just about any major music store and browse the videogame soundtracks, which sit right alongside the television animation and film soundtracks. It's nice. If you're knee-deep into games geekdom like I am, buying and listening to these collections is a joy. It just sucks that I have to go half way across the world to find a decent selection.

Capcom is looking to change some of that through a partnership with label Sumthing Else Music. Together, they plan to distribute soundtracks to North America in both physical and digital form. You can expect soundtracks from games like Bionic Commando, Resident Evil, Street Fighter and more to be released.

Here's the full list:

  • Bionic Commando
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop
  • Dark Void
  • Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
  • Spyborgs

"We are very excited to partner with Capcom in bringing their video game soundtracks to the North American market," said Andy Uterano, President of Sumthing Else Music Works. "Our mission as a label is to support and enhance the lifestyle experience of the gamer by offering the latest and greatest soundtracks so they can enjoy and revisit their favorite gaming moments through the music."

Release dates for these albums will be announced shortly. As you'd guess, the albums will also be availble on iTunes. Good job, Capcom. This game music geek thanks you!

Dark Void - they did this just in time, because the DV music is going to be really good.

Great stuff Capcom. Those are cool, but what I really want is SF3 3rd Strike soundtrack, which has been out of print now for ages.

3rd Strike OST is one of their best ever.

Do the soundtracks contain exclusive music or can you just rip it from the game CD itself?

The Mega Man 9 (Rockman 9, technically) soundtrack is up on Capcom's site, though you may be able to get it a bit cheaper through online import stores like cdjapan.

@Chronic: Why go through that trouble when someone's already ripped it for you?
