Capcom trademarks Mega Man Universe photo

If a trademark is any indication, Mega Man Universe just might be the "rad" direction Capcom is taking the Blue Blomber.

Siliconera dug up the trademark today, only a day after we reported comments by Capcom's Seth Killian hinting at the future of the Mega Man series. On an upcoming episode of the Bit Transmission podcast, Killian says the upcoming Mega Man title will surprise fans.

"I actually haven't seen anything that's going on with the project right now," he says, "but the idea was exciting. This is still kicking around as a concept. But there are exciting ideas in the Mega Man space."

By "space," Seth, did you mean... universe, by any chance?

Mega Man Universe Sounds Like Capcom’s Next Mega Man Project [Siliconera]

Oh man, this sounds like an MMO...I hope I'm wrong

It sounds more like a Mega Man game that ties all of the universes together like Mega Man and Mega Man X. I'm excited!

I actually would love a Mega Man game that will allow each Mega Man series to interact with other Mega Man series.

Mega Man in the Mega Man X universe? Nice.

Mega Man Volnutt in the Battle Network universe? Fuck yeah.

Could easily be the every robot every power mashup game I dreamed of.

How bout a mega man world where you design your own mega man. The spirit of that is SO already there

this is awesome

Does this mean it will be easier for them to shut down the fan film?

Actually, I would love to see Capcom make a Mega Man game that smoothly transits the original Mega Man games to the Mega Man X games, because Capcom did a poor job telling how the story of Mega Man X was set hundreds of years after the original Mega Man games. I thought the X series was an entirely different Mega Man game like how Legends was or Battle Network.

In my head, all I see is a Smash Bros. Clone with all the robot masters.

It is the greatest of times in my head.

@Chronic

I think it'd come off alot like Star Wars prequels. Lots of winking and smiling at the camera about what's about to happen in X, which they kind of already do anyway in 9 and 10.

Just feels like that story's already been told in a very vague, passing sort of way. Expanding it would... kinda suck, I think.

But yeah, like te prequels, it would be kinda fun to watch...

@Fisty Dollars: A traditional MMO type game would probably suck (the only MMO I ever loved was Puzzle Pirates... all others I tried were just grind and boredom).

Whatever it is, so long as it has traditional Mega Man twitch + strategy gameplay, I'd be game. I love the core Mega Man games. The first Mega Man X or two are great as well (although, I feel slower and more plodding of a pace). I really haven't played some of the fiddly new ones, so I can't comment, but I am not sure if some of the mechanics are what *I* personally would want from a Mega Man. But something new with the same platforming, selecting weapons and items to get you through in unique ways (beyond the bosses... I love how some weapons are more effective against different regular enemies and level obstacles), and great level and enemy design, I'd go for that!

But actually what may be awesome would be a well-executed multiplayer (a la New Super Mario Bros Wii) with 2+ players. Although it would complicate level design with the vertical, Rush-based, hoverboard thing, I think it would be really awesome if you can have Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass (Forte) all on the screen at once busting it up (each with their separate skills and weaknesses), trading weapons with each other, and generally trying to develop complex strategies to get through levels and defeat bosses as a team.

Just thinking...

As long as it's not of the Battle Network/Star Force flavor, I'm sure I'll check it out.

Megaman fighter.

Choice characters from around the megaman universe, all poised for battle, in a tvc/mvc setting.

Unexplainably, it feels like the first potential MMO I'd feel like I'd have to give a real shot. Not too sure it is one though.

Sounds like Super Megaman Galaxy. I doubt that's what it is. But I'd be cool with it. A 3D Megaman would be great if it was more like Legends and less like X7.

I could picture a 3D Megaman game playing out alot like Lost Planet. I'd prefer a remake or new entries into the "X" series though.

I wonder what system it could be for. The Battle Network Series was always my favorite, so I kinda hope it's for DS or maybe 3DS. But it will probably be for Wii or PS3.

@Mark Oleski

If it was 8 bit, I'm not sure the "Massively Multiplayer" part could be defined too well. I could see a classic Mega Man game working with online co-op, but not with more than a party of 4. The screen just couldn't fit that many.

Holy shit. Megaman meets Castle Crashers or 4 Swords would be tight, too.

I rest at the exact galactic center of the Megaman Universe. We should be absolutely clear on this.

Also, Legends 3 would be nice, an HD Remix of the original MMX would be awesome, too...but bringing back Power Fighters as a MvC-style massive-roster dream game would rule. Imagine having over 80 boss robots and adding that to the cast of MM, PM, Roll, Bass, Auto, Wily...man, that shit would rock...Man.

I would love to see an MMO set in the Mega Man Legends time line. You start off as a low classed digger and you go into ruins and fight reverbots and collect zenny and travel to different islands. Over time you can get higher classed licenses and go on digs with a team. Eventualy leading to the ruins of the original megaman boss stages.

@ Chromic Logic Legends isn't an entirely defferent timeline, it's set in the same universe just long long long after the other megaman games, it's the furthest along in the time line.
