Capcom says that the Wii will be 'flooded' with AAA titles soon photo
     Capcom

"Flooded" is not a word that gamers like to hear. It makes us think of shovelware and ports. But, this is Capcom we're talking about here, and they're saying that this upcoming flood will involve "triple A" titles. If that's the case, then bring it on!

Nintendic came across this message from a Capcom Community Specialist on their official forums:

"Honestly, I think the lack of AAA titles also has a lot to do with a lot of the 3rd parties simply being caught with their pants down. Triple A take a lot of time to develop; Many years in fact. For them to have been announced/released by now, it would have meant that they were in development/planning before/shortly after the Wii was released. However, nobody, besides Nintendo, expected the Wii sales to be so strong, and anyone who did should be buying lottery tickets."

"However, the good news is, now that the industry has seen the rise of the Wii, I’m sure many plans and budgets have been shifted and adjusted, and triple A titles should be in their pipeline (though not ready to be announced). This means soon, you should be flooded with the titles from the franchises you’re familiar with, and ones that aren’t just spinoffs."

"Have a little patience and faith in the little white console that could. I know I am." ‘Lost’ - Community Specialist, Capcom Entertainment, Inc.

I'm more than happy to take anything that Capcom dishes out. Do you think this guy is just blabbering on? Or do they really have some good stuff up their sleeves for the Wii?

If anyone would flood the Wii with quality titles other than Nintendo, it's Capcom, but I'm gonna have to see it to believe it.

I don't think the market is really there on the wii for something like that. It doesn't really matter how many Wii consoles are out there if 90% of them are happy with the game that came in the box.

And by "next-gen", you mean on a PS3 or 360, right? Wii: next-gen? Great joke.

Lets see, you can make some bullshit minigames and turn out a nice profit. Or you can spend some time, waste a lot of money on inferior hardware, have your "triple A' titles one or two less A's due to graphics and maybe you'd manage to get a bit more money than what you would releasing 3 crappy minigame collections instead.

Like Sterling said im glad to hear Capcom will at least TRY to make a quality game when even Nintendo themselves are NOT trying even by their standards ( they standards mean Zelda sequels, Mario sequels, Metroid games, etc. Were are those again? Its been a good while how about a freaking Wii Zelda? Another metroid for the DS? ) but everybody is following nintendo lead: Produce regurgitated bullshit minigame collections and other stupid things, people will still buy the damn console cause yuppies have set it up as a trend to "wiggle and shake" that wiimote.

At least theyre optimistic. Although im pretty sure most companies have figured out that with the Wii they dont have to spend oodles of cash on development to make a game that will sell. Instead of having a team of 100+ people working on a AAA title for 2 or 3 years, just have a team of 20 people work for 4 months on any variety of self-help games and theyre rolling in it.

It's been 1.5 years since Twilight Princess was released. Give it some fucking time for a new one.

I smell more Wii low-budget Resident Evil ports, minigames and side-stories with Capcom's C and D list teams, while the PS3/360 get all the multi-million, blockbuster, A team games.

I'm sorry, I don't trust Capcom. They are touting Spyborgs for the Wii, while the PS3/360 get Resident Evil 5. For Pete's sake, it's not even made by Capcom, it's outsourced to another developer.

I see no reason to turn my Wii back on as of yet.

Coming from Capcom, all I can think is Mega Man, and not Battle Network.

Wishful, me.

Twilight Princess was a GAMECUBE GAME. It was ported only. Even if it takes em 1.5 years to develop the game which would be ridiculous for a tired and done formula like Zelda, that means that they had NO PLANS to create one when they released the Wii. Its not even announced yet, you'd think they would have at least 10 screen shots from an alpha ready after 1.5 years even if release date is still far away.

No, there just knew they were going for a completely different thing: mini games, smash brawl, etc. They knew they wouldn't even TRY to regain old hardcore fans with anything new or old.

Its a fucking shame that Nintendo gets to be number one right now, they are the single most disruptive major company of videogames and their legacy is nothing but stubbornness, condescending attitude and fucking over third party developers. Nothing has changed, yet you IDIOTS have made em number one again? For what? For bullshit for nothing but fucking bullshit on that stupid console.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed before or after Nintendo touched you inappropriately?

Zelda games are baked for years in giant incubators and hatched in the final stages by giant condors. Condors hatch no eggs before their time. rushing a condor unleashes hell, resulting in the death of wolves. And considering the MGS4 is coming to the 360, where is the justice in winning a contest and never interacting with the community that gave it to you.

In short, your internet anger makes as much sense as I just did.

also, cocks.

What would be the point of releasing pics from a very early build of the game? Chances are that it isn't looking very pretty and more likely cause apprehension rather than hype since we are used to seeing the nicely polished screenshots.

The point would be ANNOUNCING IT. You all assume it will be released, why? They are doing pretty damn good without it. Even if they have no media at all to announcing, hinting that its being worked upon would mean that they intent to at least try.

And this is just an example, quickly name a Wii game thats over 15 hours long...10 hours long...hell even 5 hours long...

I'd like to think that a company, while they need money to stay afloat would through their devoted audience a bone every once and a while. They can still make the cheap ports that make them money, but why couldn't that help fund a title for the "hardcore" crowd?

So Capcom, aside from Monster Hunter 3, which no one in the west will give two shits about, what do you have for us Wii owners?

I don't buy companies using "we could just make money" excuse. It's greedy and a poor business model. It makes it look like all they care about is the bottom line. A good company thinks about more than just that.

Yeah, they announce it, people go crazy for like 5 minutes and then the ranting about no screens begins. You don't seem to know Nintendo very well, do you? Wait until E3 and you'll see that they have something to announce, even if it isn't a Zelda. Which would, in fact, make sense. Why should they announce a Zelda (Action-Adventure) with Kid Icarus (most likely Action-Adventure) if it's coming of course..

and btw: Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes came to my mind...

I don't recall any system being flooded with AAA titles. Those titles seem to trickle in and build over time. I think that's how it's worked with every system dating back to the NES.

I still don't get all the complaining about the Wii's library. There is a lot of crap, but there's also a lot of generic crap on the 360, PS3, DS and PSP, as well as every system ever made. I have a fairly large library of Wii games that I find enjoyable. These titles are quite varied and keep me busy and entertained, which is the reason I play videogames.

Actually, none of those consoles are "next-gen." They are all current-gen, since they are all from the generation of gaming that we are all currently in. For fuck's sake.

I don't get the complaints, either. I've had a Wii since day one, and I've been very happy with it.

I also hate when people say the Wii isn't "next-gen" (meaning current-gen), when there are really good uses of the motion controls that no other console has or has had. Sure the Wii is a breeding ground for horrible, pushed-out-the-door third-party titles, but if you look hard enough, there are games on the Wii that rival anything else you can think of.

Well, it DOES take a long time to make a good game. But announcing it early will also hype it up more. Many Wii owners are left with excitement for new titles, they see almost nothing in the horizon.

Doesn't matter, I'm getting a Wii anyway.
