Very much like Dead Rising 2, we knew a sequel to Capcom's Lost Planet was on the way, but it's always nice to have confirmation. Capcom has provided such a thing this morning, with a new trailer that is available on Xbox.com (US accounts only, for some reason).
The main draw of Lost Planet 2 is the promise of new environments. There has been a climate change which leads to the melting of some of the planet's snowy regions, creating new jungle areas. There will also be a co-op mode, portable cover, mechs with passenger seats and turrets, possible squad-based gameplay and a story that focuses on several characters as opposed to just one.
Capcom is promising some vastly different gameplay, which sounds good to me since I was less than impressed with the first game. It looks as if Lost Planet 2 will be a dramatic shift for the series, so you can color me interested. We'll be back with the trailer as soon as we get our hands on a decent version.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Using multiple characters should make the plot even more absurdly incomprehensible than the original though =D.
Anyway I kinda enjoyed parts of the first lost planet and the multiplayer was alright. It screamed of last gen though.
I'm part way through the first, and I don't hat it but ... enh :/
1.) Less confusing story.
2.) Better AI (Bad AI for the monsters is understandable, but not in the soldiers).
3.) Faster animations and speed.
4.) Not enough hot asian chicks (BAZING!).
Looks promising, shame the animations are ripped straight from the first game, what gives Capcom? you've done a similar thing with resi 5 and recycled animations!
Also, considering Capcom's new multi-platform strategy and the fact that Dead Rising 2 is multi-plat, I doubt it will be X360 exclusive.
I just hope this time around they can give us a story that makes sense.
So, in celebration, who wants to play some Colonies Edition this week?

If they sort out the absurd storyline from the first one and make sure the PS3 port measures up to the 360 one, I'm definetly buying this.
