Capcom officially confirms Lost Planet 2 photo

Very much like Dead Rising 2, we knew a sequel to Capcom's Lost Planet was on the way, but it's always nice to have confirmation. Capcom has provided such a thing this morning, with a new trailer that is available on Xbox.com (US accounts only, for some reason).

The main draw of Lost Planet 2 is the promise of new environments. There has been a climate change which leads to the melting of some of the planet's snowy regions, creating new jungle areas. There will also be a co-op mode, portable cover, mechs with passenger seats and turrets, possible squad-based gameplay and a story that focuses on several characters as opposed to just one.

Capcom is promising some vastly different gameplay, which sounds good to me since I was less than impressed with the first game. It looks as if Lost Planet 2 will be a dramatic shift for the series, so you can color me interested. We'll be back with the trailer as soon as we get our hands on a decent version.

I loved the gameplay in Lost Planet =<. If they turn it into some sort of boring Gears of War shooter I will be very disappointed.

Using multiple characters should make the plot even more absurdly incomprehensible than the original though =D.

No love outside of US? Ah well.

Anyway I kinda enjoyed parts of the first lost planet and the multiplayer was alright. It screamed of last gen though.

I never managed to get more than about half an hour into the first Lost Planet. It seemed like a fine game, but it just never hooked me. So whenever the next one comes out, I look forward to giving it a try.

Good, I hated how the third person shooting worked. I wasn't impressed by the demo so hopefully this game will spark my interest if it comes out on ps3. I wonder if Capcom is announcing all the titles now, what the hell are they gonna announcing at E3.

I liked how you had to keep your heat up. Taking it out of the cold seems to make that less important, which would be unfortunate.

I'm part way through the first, and I don't hat it but ... enh :/

Maybe you have to keep your heat *down* in the jungle?

Things that need to be fixed
1.) Less confusing story.
2.) Better AI (Bad AI for the monsters is understandable, but not in the soldiers).
3.) Faster animations and speed.
4.) Not enough hot asian chicks (BAZING!).

So is this XBox exclusive? Sounds crazy after seeing all the other Capcom games go multiplatform.

Sweet! They can change all they want as long as its still in third person perspective with the same aiming mechanic. I loved the controls! I still dream of the Halo series being redone with that viewpoint and controls. Would be so much better imo.

That trailer looked sweet, especially considering that was all ingame footage

Does this mean this is 360 exclusive?

Just watched the trailer on Youtube without subtitles, from the looks of it, it seems to rely heavily on co-operation from multiple players to take down bosses.

Looks promising, shame the animations are ripped straight from the first game, what gives Capcom? you've done a similar thing with resi 5 and recycled animations!

Yeah, the trailer looks like 4-player co-op which is wanted baddly!

Awesome! I loved the first one. Funny thing is I only played about an hour or 2 of the single player game, but was obsessed with the multiplayer for a long time. Something about it hooked me (maybe it was just because I was good at it). So yeah, in other words I'd buy this game just for the multiplayer.

Also, considering Capcom's new multi-platform strategy and the fact that Dead Rising 2 is multi-plat, I doubt it will be X360 exclusive.

Oh baby, I loved the crazy action in the first game.

I just hope this time around they can give us a story that makes sense.

So, in celebration, who wants to play some Colonies Edition this week?

Ok, just watched the trailer and I'm even more excited. The main reason I loved the multiplayer over the single player of the first one was that squad feel. That rush you get when you're running up to a building with a bunch of other dudes and you all grapple hook up the side of it simultaneously totally surprising the enemy on top and taking over. It looks like they're bringing that to the single player this time around (with what looks like 4-player co-op even) and it looks pretty awesome. Can't wait.

What I want to know is if the game is multiplatform, and I don't mean just getting a lazy PS3 port and an even lazier PC port.

The only interesting part of the first game was the design of the various Akrid. Other than that, everything felt very standard, except for the characters, which were the worst part of the whole affair. They all looked like they had been yanked out of a Final Fantasy outing, and the voice acting was horrendous. Still, I'm willing to give it a rental.

Great, I really, really liked the shooting controls in the first one, and the bosses were, frankly, epic.

If they sort out the absurd storyline from the first one and make sure the PS3 port measures up to the 360 one, I'm definetly buying this.

New environments will be awesome! The first game sucked just because it was so cold and depressing to me.
