Capcom lists Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop for a February 24 release

Capcom lists Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop for a February 24 release photo
     Capcom

According to a listing on Capcom's official online store, it looks like Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop will be available for the Wii on February 24. This conflicts with other retailers who are listing the game for a late January release; we're inclined to go with Capcom on this one.

It's also interesting to note that the list of features includes "Take pictures to capture all the intense action to earn points and new items." The last we heard, the photo-taking gameplay mechanic from the Xbox 360 version of Dead Rising was being stripped from the Wii port. This feature list could be a hold-over from the 360 version's fact sheet, so don't get your hopes up just yet.

I've been pretty hard on Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, put off by the fact that many features are being stripped from the original, including the number of zombies. After I played it, I wasn't too thrilled with it either. But getting close to release, there's still a part of me that wants to pick it up. Maybe if Capcom can get that $39.99 price tag a bit closer to $29.99, we'd be in business.

I don't think you've been too hard on it. I think the waggle moves are going to be unreliable, there's only a few zombies(1-2 dozen in the shots I've seen, the courtyard looks desolate compared to the 360 version)

The 360 version wasn't perfect. It was a sandbox style game that discouraged exploration because of the limited time you had to accomplish objectives.why they did this - maybe to create a sense of urgency? Its my biggest complaint about Dead Rising.

I've heard people bitch about the save system, however, the save set-up was appropriate for the style of game. It created a sense of tension as you fought your way to the next bathroom /save area. There were enough bathrooms spread around so it wasn't terribly difficult to find one.

Dead Rising was one of the Better early 360 games. I still go back an play it on occasion. If/when Capcom does a sequel I hope they stick to what worked in the title.

@D-Nez - I've been playing Dead Rising for the first time pretty heavily this last week and I'd have to agree with most of what you have brought up but I would like to add that the original 360 game has so many good ideas, but poor execution imo. Its a great early 360 game sure, and for the first of its kind did pretty well. But I'm actually hoping they change a lot for the Wii version.

The friendly AI was terrible, but you learned to get around it. Ultimately making it to the security room is satisfying despite all of the frustration.

All of the boss fights are shit, pretty much. But you learn to cheese them out with silly tricks here and there to take advantage of poor AI and a shit ballistics system. That is to say, the guns in the game, suck balls.

And of course it all could have been so much better if they focused more on letting you kill zombies with no time limit and less random jeeps with convicts who are almost impossible to kill unless you've grinded the appropriate levels or got lucky enough to have the stupid AI to get themselves stuck driving constantly forward against a tree, who will just respawn later even if you manage to somehow kill them making the epic effort wasted...

Whoever thought that one up should be shot in the face.

Of course hoping for drastic changes in gameplay, boss mechanics and overall game design to happen on a Wii version is a bit silly.

Dead Rising 2, I'll keep my eye close on that one if news ever surfaced...

@ Demtor- The Wii version will have drastic changes in gameplay, boss mechanics, and over all game design.

The bad news is that there will be less zombies and worse graphics. The good news is it will have a better camera, more readily available projectile weapons, a better aiming system, a better item management system, more types of enemies, a new save system, and no 72 hour time limit.

If the game is successful, we can hope that all that new stuff will also end up in Dead Rising 2.

It's all the fun of killing zombies without the fun or the zombies!

Screw that game. Theres no point in it. You're supposed to be surrounded by 100s of Zombies for majority of the game. 50 or so isn't going to cut it.

@ covah- Well, it's a good thing you have Dead Rising on the 360 to enjoy. For people like me, who actually thought the original had (gasp) too many zombies, this Wii port is looking just fine.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Dead Rising on the 360... for the first twenty minutes. Playing the game all the way through is like trying to eat 300 Chicken McNuggets. It's amazing at first, but then it gets boring, and by the end it's just like work.

On the other hand, Dead Rising for the Wii promise to be more of a buffet. It's got zombies, and birds, and dogs, and fat angry cop zombies with tazer guns. It may not offer the same level of decadence as a 300 piece Chicken McNugget meal, but that doesn't mean it wont taste great.

I couldn't be less excited. Why in the fuck are they wasting money that could of been spent bringing over Capcom Vs Tatsunoko?

@ Coldbrand- Woah, you got me there. That is the first and probably only time anyone has got me thinking that Dead Rising Wii was a bad idea.

However, if you really want Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, it's relatively cheap to get going on your non-Japanese Wii.

@Jonathan- the wii version will feel the same way, but it will get boring faster because you will not have that sense of being overwhelmed. The insane number of zombies was to test your skill, and see if you could fight your way through them. The wii gives you a bird and a dog and toggle based attacks. No thank you.
