Every Street Fighter knows that a strong defense is every bit as important as a strong offense ("scoops! Häagen-Dazs!") is. It doesn't matter what kind of moves you have up your sleeve if you're not ready to defend.
Capcom is ready to defend. The publisher plans to set into motion a system that would protect them from any takeover or outside acquisition activities. This is all pending approval at the company's 29th Annual Shareholders' Meeting, but they're looking to block any actions deemed unacceptable to Capcom's value.
Despite the scary talk, Capcom hasn't received any offers yet. But, according to TVG, they believe that due to current market conditions this kind of move could be possible.
"Under such a severe business environment, in order to survive the competition, we acknowledge that the most essential issue is to establish a structure which enables responses to changes in the management environment."
I don't know what kind of super-combo Capcom has worked up, but they do say that they're willing to look at offers that comply with their rules. Yikes!
What do you think? Could you imagine Capcom being bought out? Who would they not want to "alpha counter?"

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That is not so pringles.
Capcom is doing so many things well at the moment.
It would be a mess if they got acquired by some other publisher!
If Capcom did get bought out I would hope it would be a company that would just throw money at them and nothing else..
see sunlight ever again.
WHERES DeAD RISING 2?!?!
WHERES MY RIVAL SCHOOLS REMAKE!?!?
ANSWERS CAPCOM...ANSWERS...
There is definitely a major shift coming around the corner and I think Capcom is looking to be on the luxurious side of it.
Also, Marvel v. Capcom 3. I will continue to dream that it'll happen in the next 10 years.
As for the post title, ICWATUDIDTHAR.
But whatever. Fight the powar.
This is a smart move by Capcom, and I believe we may well see more of this kind of action in the future. hate to say it, but all these aquisitions EA and co are doing, naturally has them worried. Its always better if they remain indepedant.
EA and Activision may be sitting pretty on their cash piles, but laced in greed, they'll always be looking to raise their share price with a less risk as possible. What they miss, is that the industry won't thrive much, if they keep sucking up all the talent from smaller fry.
Capcom has always been one of the best ever in my opinion. There games were always the funnest and most "arcade-like". If they got bought out,...that would be worse than getting a
Shun Goku Satsu when you have 49% of your health left.
I gave them an opportunity with Army of Two and the game was shit. Now that they have aquired Pandemic and Bioware Ill definetly wait for reviews before buying any game from those studios.
