Capcom holds back on d-pad to guard against takeover/acquisition photo

Every Street Fighter knows that a strong defense is every bit as important as a strong offense ("scoops! Häagen-Dazs!") is. It doesn't matter what kind of moves you have up your sleeve if you're not ready to defend.

Capcom is ready to defend. The publisher plans to set into motion a system that would protect them from any takeover or outside acquisition activities. This is all pending approval at the company's 29th Annual Shareholders' Meeting, but they're looking to block any actions deemed unacceptable to Capcom's value.

Despite the scary talk, Capcom hasn't received any offers yet. But, according to TVG, they believe that due to current market conditions this kind of move could be possible.

"Under such a severe business environment, in order to survive the competition, we acknowledge that the most essential issue is to establish a structure which enables responses to changes in the management environment."

I don't know what kind of super-combo Capcom has worked up, but they do say that they're willing to look at offers that comply with their rules. Yikes!

What do you think? Could you imagine Capcom being bought out? Who would they not want to "alpha counter?"

If capcom was to be bought out, I think that would be the beginning of the end.

Good thing for the guard set up!

Capcom is doing so many things well at the moment.

It would be a mess if they got acquired by some other publisher!

I can't blame Capcom for chasing after a chastity belt, seeing Microsoft (and especially, EA) behaving like college jocks with no morals on pcp. It would be slightly unusual for an all-out rapeage, seeing as Capcom is Japanese... But then again, the big C is relatively westernized. I think it's a wise move.

If companies like EA and Blizzard/Activision had their way, they would if they could.

Glandseck makes an excellent point about Microsoft and EA.

If Capcom did get bought out I would hope it would be a company that would just throw money at them and nothing else..

I dont know or care if Capcom is gonna be bought out. The one thing I DO care about is a fucking port of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on XBLA. Because that would mean I would die a happy man, and never
see sunlight ever again.

WHERES DeAD RISING 2?!?!

WHERES MY RIVAL SCHOOLS REMAKE!?!?

Capcom needs to start taking over other companies, that's how you keep from getting bought out. Buy everything not owned by EA or Activision.

I don't know exactly but the market is becoming more dangerous for companies all the time.

There is definitely a major shift coming around the corner and I think Capcom is looking to be on the luxurious side of it.

Hypothetical: Would you (DToid members) rather have Activision or EA take over Capcom?

Also, Marvel v. Capcom 3. I will continue to dream that it'll happen in the next 10 years.

Capcom still has a ton of viable properties (except Megaman) and I dont want any other [American] companies to fuck it up.

As for the post title, ICWATUDIDTHAR.

I think they need to be bought out they've lowered their values by so much that it could only improve if someone got ahold of them, well everyone except EA or Ubisoft. There way to influenced by their Japanese ideas they need to be bought by an American company.

There is absolutely no way any Japanese company, especially one as big as Capcom, is going to be bought out by an American company at this point in time.

But whatever. Fight the powar.

Seriously Street Fighter is Capcom, there is no other way to look at it period. If anyone else touches SF, fans altogether I'd say would "give the finger" and walk away.

Capcom have been doing very well for themselves since the pushed out RE4. They reap the rewards of their hard work and great games, and that how things should be.

This is a smart move by Capcom, and I believe we may well see more of this kind of action in the future. hate to say it, but all these aquisitions EA and co are doing, naturally has them worried. Its always better if they remain indepedant.

EA and Activision may be sitting pretty on their cash piles, but laced in greed, they'll always be looking to raise their share price with a less risk as possible. What they miss, is that the industry won't thrive much, if they keep sucking up all the talent from smaller fry.

Capcom has always been one of the best ever in my opinion. There games were always the funnest and most "arcade-like". If they got bought out,...that would be worse than getting a
Shun Goku Satsu when you have 49% of your health left.

I just hope is not EA. Im only boycotting EA and all the shit they make since I havent bought an EA game since Need For Speed 1 for PC...

I gave them an opportunity with Army of Two and the game was shit. Now that they have aquired Pandemic and Bioware Ill definetly wait for reviews before buying any game from those studios.
