As much as SOPA sucks, we don't need it shoved down our throats.
You're like the atheist who won't shut up until everyone else is. We get it, there is no God™, now STFU until there's a new development that isn't just another company basically saying; "we didn't say that about SOPA! *limp wrist*"
I get accused of hyperbole a lot, but I *wish* I was as capable of it as some of you guys.
Yeah you are totes right brah, we should all just bury our heads in the sand and hope this shizzle just blows over!
whole fucking government has gone to shit imo.
Amen brother
@Jim
Fuck these jack offs, it's an important issue, keep doing what you're doing. Not that I need to tell you that or anything. Just know that not all of us are apathetic ball sacks.
You're right. I should be attacking it for not putting Mega Man in a fighting game.
Svensson is high on my list of one of most disgusting people in the industry. like....maybe 3#... or 2#, not sure.
Like his second point being that you shouldn't take the ESA's stance on SOPA as Capcom's stance, while at the same time saying that the ESA represents them in legislative matters. SOPA is a legislative matter. The ESA is representing Capcom. Therefore the ESA's stance is Capcom's stance until Capcom either separates from the ESA or opposes it.
Now there is something i can get behind lol
"We didn't say that." A real non-answer answer. Not 'front-page worthy'. If I would've known that the Public Relations version of "nuh-uh!" was news-worthy, I would've submitted the tip myself.
I still like Jim more than I dislike him, I just didn't think their statement was ripe for another anti-Crapcom snarky front-page post. I was half-expecting Jim to simply make a scathing remark on his twitter feed.
And should you dare visit the Capcom forum to complain about not being able to PLAY a game you BOUGHT, you see a genius strategy of blowing off the audience while pretending to give a damn. Over-defensive Capcom fanboys are made moderators and tasked with locking any criticism that Capcom wants to ignore, mostly about DRM or comments about "voting via wallet." Meanwhile anytime there's a positive development Sven takes the credit. So Capcom conveniently gets to blame rabid fanboys instead of company-men for ignoring paying customers.
Jim is attacking Capcom for being cowardly assholes who try to boast a lack of opinion (to avoid angering gamers) while nonchalantly remaining a member of the ESA which supports SOPA.
Oh if only our government were being run by corrupt robots, we could just feed them that logical paradox Capcom just tried to feed us.
Of course with our luck they would either have paradox absorbing crumple zones or just be as thick as Wheatly.
So Jim, even though I think you're a giant troll and the biggest tool on Destructoid, PLEASE don't stop covering this constantly and without interruption until SOPA is a distant memory.
And I think every publisher who wants to hide behind the ESA should be brought up, if only for the fact that it indicates just how nervous it seems to make companies when they're asked to comment on SOPA. These companies are so gung-ho to talk about piracy killing jobs and the industry, but it can't seem to come out one way or the other on this issue?
I just think that's worth bringing up. I am very sorry to those who do not agree, but again, these posts are easily skippable. SOPA is in all caps, and is in every related headline -- very easy to identify and skip over. You don't *have* to get involved with this at all, though I'd obviously love for everybody to be.
HA! Seriously. Get your priorities straight gamers. Or go away if shits too real. I would prefer to be informed about how my rights are being affected then who is in Capcom Franchise Wank 27.
Really? Your just seeing this now lol
What is this, like the 3rd or fourth capcom/sopa post in 24 hours from Jim? I get it, Capcom supports sopa, or doesn't, or whatever!!!1!1!!
95% of the games I play are fighting games so capcom ain't going anywhere for me! For a sec I thought this was a sfXtekken post, you know a post dealing with actual gameplay or something crazy like that, but nope :/
@ Neo Gio, I agree with this guy.
Not everything needs to be strictly "news".
What Jim is doing is shining the spotlight brighter and brighter on these fuckhole companies with every bullshit move they make, non-answer or not. The idea is to be persistent and keep the fire under them. The second outlets like Destructoid let up and start allowing some things to slide unreported, these companies and their non-answers have won.
No it isn't. ALL members of the ESA support SOPA as long as they're members. It does not matter what they say it is nothing but PR fluff. Until the ESA drops support or these companies start leaving it they all officially support it, period.
Here's a hint: if you want to be as uninformed on this issue as the general populace, don't read this article. Boom.
I would counter that spineless jelly backpedaling PR doubletalk should always be front page news (not that a blog really has anything other than a front page). Otherwise Spineless jelly backpedaling PR doubletalk is rendered effective.
Expose it for what it is and its rendered null and void.
And at the end of the day these companies aren't going to magically change their ways because their hearts magically grew three sized and they saw the error of their actions. Its going to be because people called them on their bullshit and shamed them into doing the right thing, that and the fear of losing customers.
THAT SAID;
• It was heavily implied that Crapcom supported SOPA.
• Crapcom comes out with official statement saying; "We didn't say that!" while not out-right decrying SOPA in any way.
Is capcom still the bad guy? Yes. But no more or less than yesterday*, so I didn't think the new post was necessary.
(*Okay, maybe a little more bad, since they've decided to insult their clientele by avoiding taking a stance on such an important issue.)
Does that clear things up a bit?
But that's just the problem with SOPA, isn't it? Do you really want the kind of control that a law like SOPA contains given to an body that doesn't answer to you and me, but for the bottom line of its investors? I don't.
This isn't an emotional or artistic issue for me. I think Capcom and the ESA members at large make great games and I hope they continue to have wonderful success as game makers. But they're also business people. As a "game maker" but what you make is profit. Nothing wrong with that, just don't tread on me.
Keep fighting the good fight. I certainly appreciate it! If some do not, it's only because they are too young and immature to know better. They don't even teach constitutional rights in schools anymore.
