The first game really hasn't aged well, and the second just isn't worth playing at all. The third one's great but it sure ain't worth 40 bucks in 2012.
Devil May Cry 2 is a cautionary tale about bringing a team with a completely different vision in to do a game in an established series. Now, if only Capcom could fucking learn from that.
@Kyakakin: Devil May Cry 1 and 3 you should probably play, 3 being the most fun out of both, 1 will give you a foothold on the story. 2 well we like to think 2 doesn't exist, hell I think the creators at one point said they pretend 2 doesn't exist lol. Storyline wise though it goes like this 3, 1, 4, 2.
ironically DMC2 is the same team that did DMC3.

I think Devil May Cry 3 is the best technical action game of all time, but some may find it antiquated. If you grew up during and are fine with PS2-era action games, go with DMC3. Otherwise Bayonetta is excellent, and is what DMC4 should have been.

It looks like a co-situation with Capcom and Pipeworks. If you're worried I'd wait for more reports in regards to potential issues.

I can't tell what the Europe release date is. Some say Tuesday like Amazon but some say Friday like Play.com
The thing about DMC, (especially the first) is that since it was based off prototypes for Resident Evil 4, it still uses RE 1-3 camera angles; The crappy fixed ones. It feels kind of weird going in, but if you can break through that barrier, they're pretty cool games.
I donīt trust in the quality of games that hit retail BEFORE itīs announced date because I believe they want to sell as much as they can before it can be reviewed. Maybe itīs just as crappy as Silent Hill HD (I saw it at a local retail store 4 days before itīs official realese date).
I still think they should have signed some deal with Atlus to replace DMC2 with shin Megami Tensei III: NOcturne since it had Dante in it and was a better story and game than DMC2 was.
Can't wait to play DMC 2 and revel at how fucking PS2 it is in all aspects, then go straight to DMC 3 and revel in the awesomeness. While once in awhile playing DMC 1 for awhile then putting it down after a play session and completely forgetting about it.
Oh wait I have already did this with the last damn DMC collection. At least they finally get released on a MS console at least.

I've never played DMC. I started getting back into action games by playing the God of War Collection for the PS3. A few hours into the second game and loving it so far. I plan to get this collection as well. So my question is, is DMC2 bad enough that I shouldn't even bother with it, and should I also get DMC4 as well?

It's difficult, but not unfair and I think anyone with persistance can make it through it. I'd recommend Bayonetta first since that game is easier. If you have a PS2 you may not even really need this HD collection. DMC 2 is largely hated, and DMC 1 has not aged well at all.

Devil May Cry 2? What the deuce? Surely it must just be a prototype of the upcoming DmC to entice people to buy the collection.
So are these games HD at all? Looking at the screenshots it looks like all they did was alter the games for a wider aspect ratio. Which is cool and all but not worth paying full whack for. All 3 games already ran buttery smooth ~60fps on PS2 so I won't be rushing out for this.
Remind me again why "street dates" exist? I'll hazard a guess that it has something to do with "business" and "rules", neither of which my wallet gives a flaming poopoo platter about.
Europe release date is Tuesday as well, I got mine from shopto yesterday and it's already turned up. Guess I'll be demon slaying today!
@Mindkiller89: Looking at screenshots of the HD collection, the graphics definitely look higher in quality. The original games look dark and blurry in comparison. Still, who knows what will be the final product. I'm hoping it runs smoothly and without bugs.
This is neat. Not $40 neat though. Hmmmm....maybe $15 neat. Yeah, that sounds about what its worth to me.
I think it's cool that Capcom is releasing this thing to begin with, but I can't say I have any interest in it. The only two things I really want HD Collections for at this point is Ratchet & Clank 1-3 (which is coming by the end of the year) and Vice City/San Andreas (which may never come out).

Got mine in yesterday. Hasn't aged well imo. They could learn a bit from Kojima Productions and Team Ico. Other than that the trophies are good. Buuuut I'll just stick to playing Mass Effect 2 and Asura's Wrath for now...

Just because a game breaks street date doesn't mean it's not finished. I don't understand how people can jump to conclusions like that. There could easily be other reasons.
For example, perhaps Capcom played it safe by setting a later date but the process to get the discs out took less time than expected. Perhaps it was finished early and they intended to hold the copies until street date, but pirates leaked it so they decided to break street date. Maybe Capcom used a time machine to ship the game from the future! Use your imagination!!
