Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono has been talking about the problems facing Street Fighter IV's development and has admitted that lag during online bouts is a "huge problem" for the game. He stated quite openly that creating the new Street Fighter is a difficult process, but said his team is working on the potential problems.

"Obviously lag will be a huge problem for online play. We're working on it. It's quite difficult for 3D Street Fighter at the moment," explained Ono. "In order to prevent the lag we're thinking about trying to balance it up at [the] user interface level and input timing. We still haven't got a complete plan as yet. We're still working on it. That's all we can say at the moment."

I'm no one-on-one fighting game fan, but I'm tempted to try and master the art for this game, which is looking terrific, even if Chun Li looks like a post-op transsexual. Still, even without considerable lag, the fighting game freaks will complain that the online ruins the game because they can't accurately predict attacks that they've spent eight months studying the framerates of. God, those people make me sick.

Beat'em Ups just don't work online like they do offline. I doubt SF4 will change anything there.
Also changing the balance for online play would destroy the whole balance of the game.

I don't think I'll be playing this online much. Besides, you need to stand side by side next to the person so you could shoulder them aside when they start getting cheap.

This is one I will deff be playing... I love me some SF.

I do hope the lag issues work there way out, I know its a problem on the PS3 with MK2. Even sometimes when I am host its still lags due to the other persons connection... its odd its like BOTH people need a good connection.

The lag is a problem with any game that requires precision and where you can't do client-side prediction without ruining the gameplay, in other words pretty much most fighting games.

Also, ParaParaKibng, SF4 isn't a beat'em up.

@Narishma:

Someone else caught that one too. Thank god I'm not the only one.

@Jim:

It's not really the minute frame differences that bother someone like me. It's when I whiff an easy combo online because of lag that makes me want to verbally degenerate someone's mother.

@ Narishma and BravoNavo

ParaParaKing is British or something. Over there, fighting games are synonymous with beatemups apparently. Kinda like how they call football soccer. They're a hilarious bunch they are.

Also, everytime I lose online, it's because of lag.

SF is not a beat em up.

streets of rage is a beat em up.
