Capcom developing unannounced PC-lead titles photo

In a recent interview with VG247, Capcom's Christian Svensson says the company is currently at work on some PC-lead games. Quite the opposite of their usual way of doing things, this means that Capcom has a couple of games being developed for PC, with consoles ending up as the ones getting the ports.

He says "the pedigree of the team and the primary focus of the design is around the PC, and the largest forecast is on PC for at least one of these projects."

It's nice to know they're at least doing it right, utilizing developers who really know their stuff when it comes to the platfom they're working on. If you're a console/arcade gamer like me, this is still no reason to get bent out of shape. Svensson is sure to note "That doesn't mean that that content isn't also going to show up on console, because it will."

That's good. Let's not go too crazy. But what's this "largest focus" talk? Do we have a Capcom MMO on the way? Svensson isn't letting that cat out of the bag just yet, of course, but he says he and his team are very excited for whatever it is, and I'm interested to find out what they're up to myself.

Assuming it uses the MTF engine that just means its probably be a console game. DR DMC4 LP and RE5 all technically share a PC lead moniker. Then they just port to consoles

WOW. This is an awesome news. I am waiting for this. Hope it will be out soon. Thanks a lot for sharing this great news.

[And then I tried to post spam links, which was naughty, and I should know better! Thanks for fixing that, Topher, you are so handsome and wise!]

I don't think they said ANYTHING like that when they started making DMC4 or RE5 did they?

Regardless, Im excited, Capcom have been doing great PC games lately. Nothing like SFIV at 1080p, 16xAA, and 60+ Frames Per Second.

@Los255

Well Metroid made a great transition from 2d to FPS so I'd like to see what capcom can do.

I don't think of capcom as a PC developer so it should be interesting to see what they can pull off.

@Xhumation:

Touché.

I think they should experiment on a cel-shaded level to see how that works. Maybe somewhere along the lines of Team Fortress 2, but more Megaman-ish.

It's great that Capcom supports the PC so much when other devs have been moving away from it and developing for consoles with sloppy PC ports second. Actually Capcom's been doing some really great things lately, hopefully they'll keep the ball rolling

Their ports have been amazing, but sadly none of them are in genres I care about. With Resident Evil 5 though, that all changes... looking forward to it.

@Dan CTi:Exactly what I was going to say. Much less intuitive , being both bars way too distant, but it actually feels a little classier. I love IV, not as much as I do III, but its HUD seems a little too clunky, shiny and attention-whoring to me. Nice to compare the old Ryu model. I remember facepalming when I first saw it.

I still smile when I see those beta Ocarina screenshots. There's a part of me that just loves to sit and watch what games could've been though in-development screens.

It's probably some kind of Monster Hunter MMO.

A Monster Hunter MMO
shouldve been done since Day 1. There a ton of possibilities with that franchise, especially sincenits so popular in Japan.

Guys, there already is a Monster Hunter MMO. Monster Hunter Frontier. It's in beta. There are ways for non-moonspeakers to play it too, google it

@ all the people suggesting a FPS Megaman or Monster Hunter MMO, I've got the perfect idea for you:

a Maverick Hunter MMO.

alternatively, Robot Master Hunter (but it doesn't have quite the same ring to it.)

I'll be awaiting Blizzard's surrender anytime now.

I'm so glad they didn't stick with that HUD on SF:IV.

That's a pretty good shop. Nice one, topher.
Also I've been really digging Capcom's PC policy lately. They're still a Japanese, console-focused company, but they know where there's money to be had and aren't playing any favorites. Platform specific fanboys must loathe them.

Yeah I believe they did say they lead developed their games on PC's then downported them to consoles, since their engine has been all cross platform for a while now. That just meant from a technical standpoint though, I assume here they mean they actually intend a game to sell primarily on PC. Well actually not totally true I suppose, SF IV is totally lead developed on PC, since that's what it runs on in arcades. And the home PC version runs awesome.

Yayyyy, a big publisher actually going to PC lead titles rather than porting!

Street Fighter MMO, would be sweet to walk around in an open 3D world and pick fights with people that would then put them on a 2d landscape and then spend some time planting trees

they have MT framework. they love MT framework
All the MT framework games are ports to consoles, basically.
When they started supporting PC again, for the last two years, they saw a positive reaction. Now we see a positive reaction on our positive reaction
So why anyone should be surprised?:)
