Capcom: Darkstalkers 4, Capcom vs. SNK not coming soon photo

Fans of Darkstalkers and Capcom vs. SNK have had to patiently stand idle while Street Fighter, Marvel and even Tekken are getting a turn at the Capcom fighting wheel. Unfortunately, they're going to be waiting in line for a very long time, because neither series is getting a new game soon.

"Right now we're focused on Street Fighter X Tekken, SSFIV: 3D Edition, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and maybe something else somewhere," says US VP Christian Svensson. "That's more than enough fighting products for an audience to digest in the near term without overly cannibalizing each other.

"We also only have so many development resources. Not just any team can make a credible fighting game and we have loads of requests for lots of titles that we don't have the resources to make. While we listen very closely to fan requests, any product decisions have to overlay positively against strategic objectives and be prioritised against product viability. It takes years to make a game (that's multiple years), even an HD Remix, so while we may get to them some day, that day is still likely to be a ways off."

Looks like my dream of Capcom vs. Gospel Bill will never happen now.

I have to admit it makes a lot of sense. Perhaps too much....

I want a new Capcom vs. SNK way more than than Street Fighter X Tekken, but MvC 3 and Third Strike Online will certainly ease the pain.

I would love nothing more than CvS3 and DS4 but you can't argue with that logic. It's just too much at once. They'd risk hurting all their franchises, not just one or two. Fighters are just starting to comeback to their old hay day form and they wouldn't want to wear out their welcome so soon again. If they release them slowly then the different mechanics of each game will really get to shine on their own. In CAPCOM, I trust.

How about you save IV3D and the Tekken game and give me CvS 3!

A Darkstalkers game would be swell.

Oh well. I can wait.

I can wait a very long time.

That's BS, Street Fighter IV wasn't even made inhouse, according to Inafune, and that game was great.

It does make a lot of sense, but a lot of this is because of companies like Capcom rehashing their games, with all the online editions, or HD repaints, etc etc, rather than new IPs or sequels.

Capcom Vs SNK is perhaps my favourite Capcom crossover despite my disappointment with CvS2. Me and my mate have been waiting for a sequel for yeeeeeaaaaarrrrs.

Oh well, it's not like I can afford all these games at the moment. So for now, Capcom - promise me you'll make a sequel.

PROMISE ME!

I agree w/ fugly we don't need another SF4 unless they completely get rid of those god awful remixes. Also Third Strike Online isn't really that high priority. If you emulated the game you'll been able to play online for a few years now.

To me Capcom is milking Street Fighter a bit too much Darkstalkers would be a nice change of pace. They have so many IP's Star Gladiator, Warzard, Rival Schools and of course Darkstalkers. Yet we have to deal with another sub par Street Fighter or a port that should have been out years ago.

Morrigan has been in more crossovers than actual Darkstalkers games. What's up with that?

Good. There's enough fighting games already. We don't need more generic combo memorizing, button mashers. I'm tired of seeing the vampire with green hair in vs capcom games.

I think that a new Darkstalers would be the only game I would want to play more than MvC3. This can all be abated if Capcom puts B.B. Hood and Tabain in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

By generic you mean Street Fighter right because if you played Darkstalkers 2 and Vampire Savior. Those 2 games are more technical then any 2D fighting game ever made. Warzard had a level up system and the characters we're very unique, Star Gladiator / Plasma Sword were basically a better Soul Calibur w/ super moves of a standard fighting game. Rival Schools is basically a better version of Street Fighter. With still the one of the best tag systems ever made for the 2D fighter because it was a balanced one and not abusive.

That's a great shame. I'm a big fan of Capcom vs SNK 2, and a not-as-big-but-still-a-fan of Darkstalkers. Hoping Street Fighter x Tekken is good, then.

I love Darkstalkers, but I'm fine with them waiting to bring the series back. Such a big part of what attracted me to those games was the art, and I'm not sure I would want SF4 or MvC3-style art for Darkstalkers. Maybe wait for the next gen and go all out.

Guess we won't see Darkstalkers 4 before i'm old and gray. It wouldn't piss me off as bad except I don't really care for SF X Tekken, SSFIV 3D or SF III 3rd Strike Online.

Need a new Darkstalkers, but I get the feeling it won't happen. Ever.

Seriously, I'd trade TxSF, SF4 and all that other generic rubish for even a remake of DS any damn day.

For the record, Lilith is better than Morrigan all the time. too bad she doesnt get the love in the crossovers. If theres Ken/Ryu/Akuma/Dan, Iron Man/War Machine and TWO Wolverines Duplicates of essentially the same character, why cant they throw me a bone and give me my sweet Lilith:(

You don't have the resources my ass! No one's asking you to make a $$$multi-million AAA project. How much did SSF2THDRemix cost? How many of your valuable team had to leave SF4 to work on SSF2THDRemix?

If you don't want to make Darkstalkers 4 and CvS3, at least allow the fans to do it.

They could still easily make her a character - especially in a crossover game, where (canon) story means absolutely nothing.

Lilith does still come out for certain moves, as a separate entity - so, while she resides in Morrigan, she can still separate. Heck, Lilith separating from Morrigan was one of the plot points from Namco X Capcom (It apparently happened because the presence of the Soul Edge unbind-ed them.)

Personally, I'd like to see Morrigan able to turn into Lilith in the middle of battle, a la Ryu's Ken/Dan/Akuma forms from MvC1. Just like Ryu, Morrigan is way too boring for the MvC games, being mostly a shotoscrub - a 'gimmick' like this would go a long ways in making her fun to play as.

@the7k

Yeah a new DS would be very appreciated indeed. Still gutted I missed out on an ebay auction of Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service on the Dreamcast. It came out again on the PS2 in Japan, under a different name but I didn't realise they were the same thing essentially, and stupidly didn't buy it. So I don't own anything apart from Chaos Tower.

Though I have deep interest in the Darkstalkers games due to their unique and inventive depictions of fabled characters, I don't agree with your statement regarding TvSF. Don't get me wrong, I don't think TvSF is better, but I still think it's a worthy addition to the genre, as I appreciate getting a taste of Japanese Cartoon Heroes of the past. But yeah, Darkstalkers definitely should be brought back, as well as Rival Schools. But that's a totally different, and impossible dream...

@Corduroy Turtle - I agree with you mate about all the characters in Darkstalkers that are being wasted. I first realised their awesomeness in the NeoGeo Pocket Game, SNK vs. Capcom - Card Fighters Clash. What a game that was! Shame no one else I knew in the UK had 1, and that the 1 mate who did, despite being a massive fan of all things Capcom & SNK, was not impressed with cards battling it out. Sheesh, what a lack of imagination - and he wants to be a director too...!
