While Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the release of Bionic Commando: Rearmed, what are the chances of the original version hitting the Virtual Console? The highly-regarded classic would undoubtedly be a big seller, so why haven't we heard anything about that possibility?
Bionic Commando: Rearmed producer Ben Judd has come clean on the subject, stating in an interview with IGN that Bionic Commando on the Virtual Console "couldn't happen." He then goes on to say, "I've tried to hit every single angle I can, I've pushed this as a new franchise. If it's not on the Virtual Console, you can bet there's a reason for it."
Bummer. But before you blame Capcom for this whole mess, check out this forum post first. In it, Capcom's VP of Strategic Planning, Christian Svennson, states that it's an issue with Nintendo.
Any idea why the big N wouldn't want to release Bionic Commando on the Virtual Console?

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
yeah i cant help but always think emulator before i buy a nes or snes game...... even though i have points to spare....
shame really ... i mean, one of the most serious collection of game choices ... hell they have SEGA on a nintendo ... I swear there was a time when every gamer would have laughed at the idea....
"IMPOSSIBLE!"
They'll just wait until ReArmed has been available for awhile and people might want to play the old version.
The only thing I can think of is that Nintendo has a set plan of Virtual Console releases or that they have limited staffing and server spaces to handle all this. Either way, each reason is inane.
Their loss.
it seems like capcom is actually trying to get in on VC, but Nintendo isn't allowing it.
But why can't Capcom put Rearmed on the Wii/Wiiware?
Capcom!
"HELL NO!"
Won't you help?
IGN: Nintendo doesn't like exploding heads?
Judd: I don't think it's exploding heads.
My bet is that Nintendo doesn't want to promote not one, but TWO Bionic Commando games that are not going to be released in the Wii.Maybe if Rearmed could get a release at the Wiiware (not HD, of course), Ninty would like to put the original one on the VC.
Yup. pure greed and envy.
Oh, and who ever thinks cleft palette babies is funny, watch out; I was born with three lips (I kid you not), and I hope you dudes have babies with birth defects.
but I still love you.
I know Nintendo is going for casuals, but how much do you think they like 3rd-parties treating them as an afterthought?
The only people who actually know are Capcom and Nintendo, and neither of them are talking. The mystery continues...
At least, that's my take on it. Nintendo can hold a bit of a grudge like that.
