While Capcom surprised the world by bringing Street Fighter IV to the iPhone, it never made its way to other gaming devices. You know, those with buttons and stuff. Why? Because series Yoshinori Ono says Sony's and Nintendo's handhelds couldn't have run the game "at the level [Capcom] wanted."
On the other hand, Nintendo's 3DS is a whole new beast. Particularly, Ono says that the system's wireless capabilities was key to the decision to bring the fighter to the handheld, noting that communication with others will be an important part of the 3DS version of the game. As for the gameplay, he says it won't be altered for a younger audience, and that "the gameplay will be the same as Super Street Fighter IV."
It's already looking great, too; Super Street Fighter IV for the 3DS is scheduled to ship next year.
'PSP' can't handled Super Street Fighter IV' - Capcom [CVG]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Alpha 3 on the PSP is brilliant. Not sure why the DS would be a problem, as long as it's not doing touch screen idiocy, the controls are probably better than the stock 360 pad for fighting games.
I call lies, damn lies and bullshit.
Seriously, the Iphone can't run it "the way they would like" but it's such a huge market with such potential profit they just couldn't say no.
I suck at 2D fighting games so I will be ignoring this title I' afraid, I rented it for my Ps3, I tried it, and i failed. Over and over and over.
Not that I don't welcome it, I will pick it up for sure.

Enjoy!
As an aside, the PSP's d-pad is shit-poor for fighting games. So, I can kind of see why they didn't port it over. Though, a fake joy stick on the iPhone version doesn't seem like a more suitable option.
Also, another theory is no one wants to develop games on a system that has such rampant piracy.
I don't need two copies of SFIV to play with my friend on my Xbox.
'cause everyone knows there's no piracy on iphones ;)
Actually I read that the 3DS was about as powerful as the Wii which is apparently not much more powerful than the PS2 which is slightly more powerful than the PSP. In any case, how could the PSP not handle this game aside from a horrible d-pad and iffy shoulder buttons?
