James Cameron, director, visionary and broodmother of James Cameron Presents James Cameron's Avatar Made By James Cameron, believes that videogame nerds, especially Halo fans, need to shut their holes about his latest epic movie.
"The funniest thing is when some of the so-called fanboys get up trashing Avatar for looking too much like Halo," chuckles Cameron, possibly while tossing a bone to one of his grateful manservants. "It’s like ... pay attention. If I’m referencing anything, I’m referencing the source work for Halo, which is my own stuff. So I get to do that. Nobody else gets to do that, but I get to do that. My rule, anyway."
If you criticize Avatar, you are clearly some sort of idiot who can't appreciate the film's incredibly subtle and relevant messages about how white Americans are sexually gratified by the idea of murdering trees and love to spunk in the eyes of baby squirrels. If you disagree with Cameron, you're a f*cking dick. Simple as that.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Not that I think Avatar is any good.
That said, James Cameron; I appreciate you're a great director and all... but yeah, you're a dick. That's fact.
You seriously need to start linking up where you got these blurbs from. Is this from the interview with G4?
District 9 is a far superior generic "white people are evil aliens are cool" movie.
I just saw the movie this past weekend and Halo never crossed my mind once. If you twist something around enough, then yeah you can make it look like anything else. That's what I think is happening if these "so-called fanboys saying it looks like Halo" are actually around.
Or not. That's not at all what he's saying. He's complaining about people deriding his movie full of generic space marines for being similar to a game full of generic space marines. He didn't say anything about the plot. Putting aside the fact that Cameron is being an idiot for taking trollbait but come on, Jim, try to have some maturity and actually read the quote you're writing.
I mean he makes a comment about one small group of people, and you act like it is direct at evrybody.
He is talking about those who say Avatar takes inspireation from Halo, not everybody who disagrees with him. You get pissed when people make shit up and put words in your mouth, and you're doing that here.
This is more or less the kind of thing you would post with a stright face, it's not exactly our of chracter for you to be say things such as this.

Also, I liked the movie :(
Xbox360Achievements.org:
Has anyone else watched the trailer for this yet? Its on the xbox spotlight now. It has totally stolen the Hornet vehicle design from Halo and also the walking vehicles from Halo Wars look very similar.
Bungie's Halo 3 Forum:
have you guys seen the trailer of avatar? its a complete rip off of halo and i dont like it!
Random blog troll's comment section:
When I first started watching the avatar trailer at first I thought cool some one is making a movie of Halo then started watching more and said what a rip off of to good plot lines halo for the design of the ships and avatar the last airbender for the name
The last one is particularly funny since Avatar was in the making long before The Last Airbender. I digress if I was Cameron I'd be upset at these retards too.
IMDB Forum:
I swear Halo looks more like a rip off of James Cameron's Aliens everyday. The ships and the marines and the guns...hmmm looks like a movie from 86.

Was it such a problem for the movie to contain these three tenuous links to a videogame? Did some person somewhere throw their arms in the air when they saw those helecopter things and shout "Halo did that, therefore this is crap" because Pokemon came first and everyone knew that Digimon was rubbish anyway.
Although, to call Avatar an original work spawned from a closed loop of genius is stupidly arrogant. The movie is just Dances With Wolves/Last Samurai/Whatever movie about an army guy going native combined with Fern Gully.
It's obvious he's ripping off the Smurf's.
Personally, there's only so many movies with heavy-handed analogies that I can take. I think on a concept level, District 9 probably does it better than Avatar. Because after seeing the preview to Avatar, it felt a lot more pretentious than the route District 9 took.
See, D9 took a classic trope and turned the tables on it. Usually its the aliens that come to Earth to enslave humanity. Instead, they basically had engine trouble, came here with their advanced technology to do repairs and we liked thier stuff so much wouldn't let them fix it and leave. It was Steven King's Carrie on a more national scale, only with aliens enslaved rather than an author held hostage by his #1 psychotic fan.
The analogy of racism/slavery is no different than than we saw elsewhere, but there were interesting spins on it. Avatar just tells the same old "white men are evil and greedy" analogy. As far as the environmentalist angle goes - also done to death. Ferngully, Final Fantasy VII. Been there, done that.
Then you take a hottie like Zoe Saldana, this beautiful and elegant woman and put her in the alien makeup. That's stupidity on the scale of making Jessica Alba the Invisible Woman.

It's more or less a prequel to District 9, prawns' style. Looks like the situation was more severe than an engine problem.
For the record, I haven't either.

Have you noticed how much he posts half the time? Let alone how little of it being anything good other than flame bait for trolls/fanboys/"Hardcore"
