Calling all Zune owners: Homebrew games are ready for play

Calling all Zune owners: Homebrew games are ready for play photo
     Indie

With the release of XNA Game Studio 3.0 CTP yesterday, the Zune community was quick to start tinkering around with putting games on the multimedia device. One such enthusiast was even kind enough to release a guide on installing homebrew games, which can be found here.

The process itself involves downloading and installing a couple of programs, among other things, but the guide is chock-full of helpful pictures, so it’s nothing you shouldn’t be able to handle.

Here’s hoping that XNA’s best and brightest games get ported over to the Zune.

I love my zune. 80 bucks for a 30gig mp3 player with a semi-big color LCD and software that keeps track of all my favorite Destructoid podcasts? Yes, please. Best 80 bucks I ever spent actually.

@Alpha- It's certainly not Temporary, and he has two other Zune inspired Tats. One is this guy petting a rabbit that they used during their earlier days of promotion, and there's another one on his shoulder that uses the "Welcome to the social" tagline. He's also looking to change his name to Mike Zune. I kid you not.

Getting back on the topic though, I have to say one thing. Hexic. Oh yes.

I tried it out, and while it's still pretty new and untapped, I see some cool possibilities. Why limit it to games? Interesting apps could be developed too.

Heh, at my last Game dev club meeting, some one mentioned developing games to play on the Zune... my first reaction, "will it work on my ipod?" XD

I don't know what the Zune hate was ever about. Apple is way overrated. I've played around with 4 different iPod models (3rd gen, 4th gen Video, 2nd gen Nano, and iPod Touch) and I didn't like any of them, ESPECIALLY THE TOUCH, ironically.
