Valve finally got around to releasing the Authoring Tools for Left 4 Dead over the weekend, and we've just now gotten around to covering it. The toolset is in beta form currently, but the plan is to open up matchmaking to allow for custom campaigns in the coming weeks.
The Authoring Tools, which can be downloaded by going to the "Tools" tab in Steam, allow for users to create and integrate their own maps, character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music into Left 4 Dead. In other words, you are only going to be limited by your imagination (and your technical know-how).
It's hard to say if Left 4 Dead will get the same amount of fan support that Team Fortress 2 continues to receive, but here's hoping for the best. The one thing I truly wanted above all else to come from the modding community is already happening, so I'm pleased. What kind of content do you all want to see?

Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

WAZZING! Lol.
Also, (To users) please add some new zombies. The normals ones, not the special ones (Ha, Special. Just look at my ideas for new campaigns:
Here; RAVE ZOMBIES WITH GLO STICKS! COME ON!
Poor manz with no money
Are you serious man? Do you actually play the game right now? There's nothing fun about it after you get all expert achievements as there's a map crisis. Too little of it.
Survival mode is done once you beat 10 minutes after that unless you're really bored you're done with the game.
There's no where near the player base as there was the first few months, now.
nothing fun about it? Yet you only refer to stupid single player crap like survival? There is a huge versus community that includes pickup and gather channels. I've been playing versus since release and have yet to get sick of this game. Competition is fun and despite CAL l4d dying (it sucked anyway) there are plenty of leagues.
The issue with this game is ragequitting. People who stay for five minutes, realize their team is going to lose and quit. It's absolutely retarded.
Brilliant I must say, make the fans do all the work and sucker them at the same time.
L4D is the last Valve game I will ever purchase, to hell with that company.
stop being a dick.
Plus, I can't get my bloody survival map to work. Stupid thing.
You're mentally lacking. Who plays survivor single player or single plywr in general? I'm talking about multiplayer campaign and versus it's same maps and it gets boring fast
It's the new shit.
If you have a group of people you are constantly playing versus games with and/or find a community (#l4dpug and #l4d on gamesurge) it breathes new life into the shitty pubbing system. Getting four friends together and doing a pickup, or starting a lobby and pubstomping ragequitters until by the finale you've had 20 players quit and new ones join.
and lol @ Kyousuke Nanbu
I agree to an extent, but what? Thank you valve for creating a gaming platform where content is instantly deliverable and available on any computer you sit down at.
Thank you for introducing independent studios to the world of mainstream gaming by allowing them to sell their content via that platform.
Imagine that, a company with barely 200 employees can't keep one of their 20 million subscribers happy.
You win the thread. I'm playing the Mines of Moria constantly on LOTR:Conquest because I love it so much. I think my voice would be hoarse playing as Bill, and yelling "You shall not pass!"
Also, I don't get people who say L4D is the best thing ever, but I also don't get it when people say it sucks. It's a pretty fun game, and like any FPS that isn't COD or Halo, if you find the right versus community, it's really worthwhile.
Explain to me how I failed because I didn't get the joke? (I did)
I never said a damn thing about the blog post. I only responded to comments, nice try though...
