Calling all Dreamcast junkies: Soul Calibur to hit Live Arcade in HD photo

Even though the Dreamcast couldn't sustain profit in the marketplace, it featured some of the best videogames ever produced and remains as one of the greatest consoles to date. Comparisons have been made between the Dreamcast and the Xbox 360 before, and rightfully so.

Many of our favorites (more recently, Ikaruga) have been ported to the 360 in one form or another, with the latest being the first Soul Calibur. It may sound too good to be true, but according to a press briefing by Namco Bandai, it isn't.

Soul Calibur on Xbox Live Arcade will be presented in all its original glory, and then some. Not only will we get every mode from the Dreamcast version, there will also be online leaderboards and get this -- the entire game will be in high-definition.

Because the excitement of this news has no doubt caused you to soil yourself, I'm going to make this short. The fact that there's no online multiplayer angers me to no end, but as long as the XBLA port plays like the Dreamcast version and looks phenomenal in HD, it'll be a "DO WANT" for sure.

Not that I'm looking forward to getting this game, but it's a welcome port that hopefully leads to more DC games.

For those of you wanting Marvel Vs Capcom 2 in HD, keep waiting, other companies own the rights to make games with the marvel license, the only possible way we would get MvsC2 would be if Capcom gets the rights again.

Why do you think Goldeneye for XBLA was cancelled? Because Activision owns the rights for the bond games.

I'm not even a fan and I want. Should have online multiplayer, though.

What Shin Oni said, I will agree. We don't need this.
Why bring it back? No online play? Blah.

Day 1 purchase for me. I could care less about online. Who wants to play with a bunch of douchebag rednecks on XBL anyway?

'Basically, DC games won't ever be able to be on the Wii'

What is Samba De Amigo, Bass Fishing or House of the Dead 2 and 3 then, Namesake? Wii can easily do DC games, its just a storage problem getting in the way.

SD cards coud technically do it, but Nintendo fail and are lame on this one.

call the dpad police!

the dc version thru a vga connection is pretty damn good, and the stock xbox controller is gonna suck for this one.

I love Soul Calibur, and Ill guarantee Id whoop ANYONE in this game with Siegfried.

News like this gets me excited, but NO Online multiplayer?! wow, talk about ordering a plain fucking cheese pizza. Its awesome but, seriously? Why not just add the ONE feature that would have people buy this in droves?

I dont understand..if theres a dreamcast game that Id buy JUST for single player it would be Jet Grind Radio. Where the fuck is that huh?!

It's just not the same w/o the old dreamcast arcade stick. That's still IMHO the best stick that has been released in the US.

But soul calibur was great back in the day because it had solid gameplay and graphics that outclassed everything else. So why not just play SC2 or SC4 if they don't screw it up?

Soul Callibur's amazing and easily my most favorite fighting game of all time.

2 things to make the VC verison truly epic though:

1.online multiplayer
2.special rules fight mode, like in Brawl where you can choose all the different fight modifiers used in story mode. Remember those? You can be giant metallic poison vampires!

I'm glad there's no online multiplayer.

I've had maybe 2-4 good sessions going with Ikaruga in the last couple days, so if peoplep can't get online reliable across short network hops (let alone cross country or global)...just leave it out.

WILL BUY! I never played this one, only jumping in with SCII, so more SC sounds like a great thing. Also, while Gamespot said there was no online multiplayer, 1UP pointed out that nothing was confirmed about it yet, so it might still be possible. Still, I'd be fine with online multiplayer in SCIV.

@michiyoyoshiku

Dont E V E R say that again.
There is ONLY one Dreamcast, and thats the Dreamcast itself.
Saying things like that is liable to get you struck by lightining.

(sorry for the double post, but it just came to mind)

What the hell is up with everyone going "Ooooo HD oooo" like this a big deal
If im not mistaken, DC SC1 is STILL one of the best looking games out there.
Though...i might be jaded a little since i still play the DC version and I was unfortunate enough to play the horrible Arcade version of SC1.
(seriously, the graphical & gameplay updates to the DC version makes the arcade version unplayable)

@decoyb
And ill agree with you about the DC Joystick thing.
Man, if i could use them for my other consoles, id be a very happy person.
Hard enough trying to play a fighter (ESPECIALLY SC4) with the horrible 360 d-pad...now this too?
*shakes head*

*goes back to playing SC on the dreamcast*
