Call of Looty? Activision suggests CoD MMO

You'd think with Activision acquiring Blizzard that this idea would have cropped up sooner, but better late than never. It's quite possible that Activision may have some inclination to produce a Call of Duty MMO, if the Activision head's latest comments on the franchise are anything to take out of context.

"...when you think about other properties that we own and control, like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment, and how do you monetize that," stated Bobby Kotick at the Morgan Stanley Technical Conference.

Of course, he's talking in pure hypothesis for the moment, but it's an interesting idea, especially with the surge of popularity that the series has enjoyed with Modern Warfare. If it took the modern-day setting as opposed to WWII, a CoD MMO could have a lot of potential for fun. That said, playing as Nazis in an MMO would be great for the bad-taste hilarity that would surely occur.

Do you think this would ever happen, and if so, how successful would it be? Can you see Blizzard influencing Activision's properties in the future?

Why not also have Call of Duty Happy Meals thrown in for good measure.

There's a keyword in this quote:
monetize.

It's high time for counter-tide to Hollyowoodized games - with big names, big graphics and big teams. I don't mind big developers whoring themselves. It's some strategy after all. Though I hope to get "ambitious" games too - with or without all the power of huge gfx engines. Kingdom for a MMO with actual roleplying - may it even be 2d.

I just cannot get into anything MMO. I don't like playing with so many people.

Yeah, I'd rather be playing the Nazis than arab freedom fighters fighting against the zionist invader army!

Also, don't roll on my M-203 epix goddammit. What? Noooooo that was my epic Abrams mount! Fucking noobs I'm leaving the guild.

This trend of "Hey this game is popular...let's make an MMO out of it" is getting old.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." Love CoD4, hate--- Planetside.

I don't really understand how they could make this work... but if they do I'll probably end up playing it sooner or later.

Doesn't make sense to me. Don't see how it'll work and doubtful that it will attract the typical MMO player who is likely to spend the $10 to $15/month playing the game. Especially since CoD games already have multiplayer.

Blizzard will do what Blizzard has always done and Activision can't make them do anything. They can propose ideas till the sun comes up, but Blizzard has the ability to say no.

Besides, to Blizzard, something like COD4 is chump change. The only way COD4 could even measure up to WOW is if every single person with a XBOXLive account played it and we know thats not the case.

To be honest, if I could play COD4 with thousands of people in an epic battle, simultaneously, I'd be all over it.

I don't know about that. A Call of Duty MMO has so much potential to fail.

I could see it working if they did something like Planetside. They'd just need to change the warp gates to transports of some sort that take you to different world locations.

I highly doubt they'll keep a combat system based on skill. Chances are the perks and rank system would be massively buffed, making it complete bullshit for people who play to test their skills, rather than the amount of time they've poured into the game.
