Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood announced photo

Today, Ubisoft announced Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It is a prequel to the sub-par, but artistically inspired, western shooter Call of Juarez.

The details are slim. According to the press release, Bound in Blood features settings such as “Civil War-era Georgia” (fingers crossed for fire) and Aztec ruins (fingers crossed for plague). It also mentioned being able to control both McCall brothers -- a point that may be hinting at cooperative play or another split narrative.

No word on release timeframe or if Ubisoft decided to get trendy and offer moral choices to players. Press release is listed after the break for those interested in exclamation marks and promises.

UBISOFT® ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF CALL OF JUAREZ®: BOUND IN BLOOD

New Game is a Prequel to the Successful Wild West Shooter

SAN FRANCISCO – January 13, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced that it will publish Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood for Xbox 360(TM), Playstation® 3 and PC in 2009.  Ubisoft is again teaming with Techland to develop Call of Juarez®: Bound in Blood, a prequel to the action shooter Call of Juarez®.

"Call of Juarez® was well received by gamers and critics," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "We're confident this new collaboration with Techland will bring an even bigger and better adventure to fans of shooters and the lawless Wild West."

Call of Juarez®: Bound in Blood transports players from a ravaged Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico. In the wildest West ever depicted, players can embody both McCall brothers in an intense Wild West storyline full of greed, lust and lawlessness that takes place during a legendary period of American history.

FUCK YES!

The first was awesome, at least on the PC, i would definetly put it on my top 20. I recently wanted to go back to it, but it seems i won't need to. I just hope they cut down on the freakish long loadings and stealth sequences.

I played the first one based on a recommendation Rev Anthony gave, it was decent, probably won't pay $60 for it though.

The original was an interesting game, and probably the closest equivalent to Last Remnant I can think of. It has some technical issues, and some of the story is pretty damn iffy at the best of times, but there are moments of greatness if you can look past that. Plus simply the originality of the setting and events makes it hard to dislike. I especially loved the horse sections, which proved tricky to control but the end result of blasting folks Stagecoach style was just so different to the utterly boring 'Duck-and-cover' style shooters we've suffered lately.

I also love the way the old western style weapons feel, plus wandering through a dusty western town reading bible scripture in one hand and dispensing swift and brutal justice with the other is just a thing of beauty. A prequel would be fantastic.
