Call of Duty: World at War Collector's Edition owners get double XP for a week photo

Remember when Call of Duty 4 owners were treated to Double XP Weekends on multiple occasions, and how they didn't have to pay extra or do anything special to get in on the action?

Yeah, well I hope those of you Call of Duty: World at War players weren't expecting a similar treatment, because you won't be getting it, if the following announcement is anything to go by.

From December 5th through the 12th, owners of the Limited Collector’s Edition of World at War will be able to earn double experience points. PC players can simply join any server to take part, while those on Xbox 360 must register their game here and play in the "Officer's Club" playlists.

I'm sorry, but paying for something like experience is a bit ridiculous, whether it be downloadable content or indirectly through promotion like this. Who's with me?

This just nailed a no-buy from me, I'm glad, I'm sorry but stuff like this makes me wonder if the game, I wondered why the people playing COD4 rose dramatically all of a sudden, it's apparent, people are already tired of this game.

I'm sorry but stuff like this doesn't surprise me on why people are flocking back to COD4, on PSN anyway.

I'll just be here, playing the game that this copies from, the superior COD4.

@mushman, how about going back even further and playing the game COD4 copied, Soldier of Fortune 2. Believe me when i say its the same engine with different weapons and updated graphics.

They might as well have DLC each level upgraded costs you $5. That would be hella fun and make the game SOOO awesome!

Ya World at War has reached a peak for me, it was good for about 2 weeks or so. It's such a copy and paste job it's boring. The damn bouncing betties are ruining the first perk because you HAVE to have bomb squad or bbs. This news guarantees a no buy for future installments. I will look heavily into IW before purchasing.

@gitrooman How about teleporting even further back and playing the game that copied. Frontline Force for HL.

Ya the point is the gameplay is old. You can probably continue with an even older game. COD4 did do something different it combined many aspects CS'ed the action and put it out for the masses.

@gitrooman

Soldier of Fortune 2 WAS AWESOME, really!! :D

Also, what volomon said in regards to COD4, but I'm buying COD6, it'll be better than this ridiculous WaW affair, at least.

I'm sorry but this is BS. I can understand it if someone bought a new downloadable map-pack (ala COD4s Variety map pack when it was released), but to alienate people who didn't spend the extra $10-$20 is crap. Way to play favorites Activision and Treyarch.

ehhh...whatever.

so the people who decided to fork over a bit more money are treated to something a bit more extra?
ok. just like buying a backstage pass ticket for a concert or the 3 disc special dvd people with more money or who are able to purchase a special edition of something are going to be treated to something better than the people who cant. so the fuck what. life isnt fair and if anyone cries about this I hope to god they fret over the bigger things in life as well.

besides the game isnt that good anyways to warrant devoting a whole weekend of play time for "dbl XP" big whoop.

@monosylabik Agreed people who buy extras get extras, however they got their extras as was listed on the collectors edition. Then they gave them extra on top of the extra they already received without any form of notice of this lame act. The mere mention of it would have probably prevented people from picking up the single or the collectors edition.

Unlike a concert their is no form of competition in the examples you give. In gaming there is. This is the difference. Giving away advantages for money is looked down upon by the gaming community (welcome to it), and will always be so.

Which is probably why the collectors edition didn't sell well and why Treyarch is giving extras to the people with it in order to try to get more people to buy it.

@Volomon,Affable Robot: Unless you can't read the front of the CE box clearly states amongst other things "double xp week" and of course "high level gun from the start". I can understand if you bought your game online or mail order you wouldn't have seen it but if you went in to a shop its as clear as day.

I don't mind it really its just another extra to say thanks for buying the more expensive version. Not the end of the world folks.

I bought the collectors edition because they were out of the standard version... I doubt I'll even use this double XP though. I don't really care.

This does not seem like a smart business move. I can see perhaps if both versions got the bonus xp time, and if you had the special edition the time would be longer. But giving out double xp only to those who got the special edition leaves a sour taste in my mouth, and had I not already purchased the game. This would of been a deterrent to buy it.

So as I see it, it's screwing over the majority. Directly effects the game play for everyone, and becomes a huge advantage.

I'll think twice before purchasing any Activision titles.

It doesn't matter people who bought the game already can't return it. Yeah Treyarch/Activision screwed the customers. I hope there's some sort of backlash within their communities, I was considering buying this game later down the road but thanks to this I decided not to buy it.

What's the big deal?

Are you guys really butt hurt that someone that shelled out extra money is getting double XP in a special area that they only have access to (which was advertised on the box)?

Here it is directly from Ebgames.com...It's too bad that most gamers don't know how to read or ignore the things called "product descriptions":

"Double Experience: Take advantage of a week of double experience in multiplayer to accelerate your advancement. (Limited time offer. Exact date for week of double experience will be announced on CallOfDuty.com, register online to receive confirmation of date and time and other key information.) "
