Remember when Call of Duty 4 owners were treated to Double XP Weekends on multiple occasions, and how they didn't have to pay extra or do anything special to get in on the action?
Yeah, well I hope those of you Call of Duty: World at War players weren't expecting a similar treatment, because you won't be getting it, if the following announcement is anything to go by.
From December 5th through the 12th, owners of the Limited Collector’s Edition of World at War will be able to earn double experience points. PC players can simply join any server to take part, while those on Xbox 360 must register their game here and play in the "Officer's Club" playlists.
I'm sorry, but paying for something like experience is a bit ridiculous, whether it be downloadable content or indirectly through promotion like this. Who's with me?

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm sorry but stuff like this doesn't surprise me on why people are flocking back to COD4, on PSN anyway.
I'll just be here, playing the game that this copies from, the superior COD4.
....
@gitrooman How about teleporting even further back and playing the game that copied. Frontline Force for HL.
Ya the point is the gameplay is old. You can probably continue with an even older game. COD4 did do something different it combined many aspects CS'ed the action and put it out for the masses.
Soldier of Fortune 2 WAS AWESOME, really!! :D
Also, what volomon said in regards to COD4, but I'm buying COD6, it'll be better than this ridiculous WaW affair, at least.
so the people who decided to fork over a bit more money are treated to something a bit more extra?
ok. just like buying a backstage pass ticket for a concert or the 3 disc special dvd people with more money or who are able to purchase a special edition of something are going to be treated to something better than the people who cant. so the fuck what. life isnt fair and if anyone cries about this I hope to god they fret over the bigger things in life as well.
besides the game isnt that good anyways to warrant devoting a whole weekend of play time for "dbl XP" big whoop.
World at War is shit anyway.
Unlike a concert their is no form of competition in the examples you give. In gaming there is. This is the difference. Giving away advantages for money is looked down upon by the gaming community (welcome to it), and will always be so.
Which is probably why the collectors edition didn't sell well and why Treyarch is giving extras to the people with it in order to try to get more people to buy it.
Christ you people will bitch about everything.
I don't mind it really its just another extra to say thanks for buying the more expensive version. Not the end of the world folks.
--over.
So as I see it, it's screwing over the majority. Directly effects the game play for everyone, and becomes a huge advantage.
I'll think twice before purchasing any Activision titles.
Are you guys really butt hurt that someone that shelled out extra money is getting double XP in a special area that they only have access to (which was advertised on the box)?
Here it is directly from Ebgames.com...It's too bad that most gamers don't know how to read or ignore the things called "product descriptions":
"Double Experience: Take advantage of a week of double experience in multiplayer to accelerate your advancement. (Limited time offer. Exact date for week of double experience will be announced on CallOfDuty.com, register online to receive confirmation of date and time and other key information.) "
