Oh well, either way it is just way too fun to use the word "sheeple"
Hardcore hatred of COD what u been smokin bud SERIOSLY most of the COD gamers I know r some of the most hardcore gamers U cant be casual gamer and be seriosly into COD or any other competitive shooter gamer most serios COD gamers run with there clan buddies too
Personally, I have no opinion on the merits of the game itself, because I've reached shooter saturation and am not playing any of them. But to a certain extent, these "automatic annual release" type franchises are going to suffer a certain amount of cynicism as a result. I have a feeling the insane piles of cash they're raking in by the truckload will take some of the sting away.
Anyways, I've played a bit of MW3 at a buddies place and loved it. I'll probably pick it up in the next week or so.
Good stuff, Jim.
I don't mean to offend but you sound EXACTLY like the pricks on Xbox Live... And not in a good way.
As for my two cents on this, I agree that a lot of people specifically like to hate things that are popular and just try to either: Bash its existence or just deny it altogether.
My friend just outright hates Call of Duty and strictly sticks to Battlefield. It's one thing to prefer one game over the other, or to even hate the game if they prefer, but he doesn't even give Call of Duty a chance, just outright hating on it without even playing the game (inb4allcallofdutygamesareexactlythesamelol).
This isn't even restricted to video games: I like a wide variety of music, ranging from Drake and Kanye West to Lady Gaga and Katy Parry. However, a lot of people seem to diss me because they claim that I'm "mainstream," that I'll only "listen to whatever's popular" at the moment. And that's just for the latter two artists; They won't even accept "hip-hop" as "music."
What can't I like what I like without being dissed about it? Their opinions aren't even the thing bothering me (because I SO care about what they say); It's their constant bugging me about it.
"Whatchu listening to?"
"Marvins Room from Drake"
"Lol, why don't you listen to some REAL music?"
"Why don't you listen to a real asshole?" (pulls out tape recorder)
I was a much happier person before I discovered the comments sections on Destructoid, GoNintendo, IGN, Kotaku etc., and saw the hate that spews forth from the fingertips of gamers.
People hate these things, but most need a face to put on it. Call of Duty is just such a face. I don't hate CoD, I hate the business model that allows games like it to flourish wildly at the expense of everything without that kind of potential. I hate that CoD players, and players of games within that same demographic, were never once given incentive to expand their gaming horizons, and instead were praised for their willingness to spend money on only a scant few kinds of games, creating a culture where anything with a stylistically uncommon or unpopular focus was deemed "not hardcore", thus not worth existing or buying.
If people need to put a face on that, CoD seems like the only logical choice given the current landscape. I just wish people didn't need to put a face on it at all.
The reason people are so turned off by Call of Duty is because it's depressing that such an incredibly unoriginal game is so incredibly popular.
I enjoy Call of Duty. I also enjoy Skyward Sword, and "casual" games like the Mario and Kirby series. Additionally, I enjoy the indiest of indie games, and some of the most weaboo shit you can imagine.
Somehow, even though Call of Duty exists, all of these games exist as well. Indie and specialist games aren't disappearing just because Call of Duty happens to be a solid FPS title.
People somehow accuse me of not supporting the industry because I buy into big franchises like Call of Duty. News flash - I still buy indie games! Both can co-exist!
The questions that truly need to be addressed are as follows:
First, why are we still talking about this? Second, why do you keep bringing it up? Third, and finally, is it not okay that others don't like what you like?
NUFF SAYD
Those people are close minded morons. Drake and Kanye are just too awesome for their pathetic little minds to handle. Take Care was a masterpiece.
The whole "it's too linear" argument is bullshit. Even the alleged "open world" games are linear. You can't start a new game of GTA IV and immediately play the "Roman's Sorrow" mission...you have to go through the single player missions in the order that the game wants you to.
Every game is linear. People just use linearity as a crutch when there's nothing else to hate on.
Good show, Jim.
Man, that's always a point I forget to bring up. Remember when the CoD franchise was praised for being among the classier FPS games on the market? It's insane how much of a u-turn it pulled.
"I like a wide variety of music, ranging from Drake and Kanye West to Lady Gaga and Katy Parry."
You might want to look up the definition of variety.
However, I don't think that the negativity levelled towards MW3 is really that much of a problem. The franchise continues to be one of the most successful video game series of all time and has fans all over the place and enjoys a huge degree it critical and commercial success.
It's only natural for people to get a bit irritated when they see something that they really dislike getting accolades heaped on it constantly. It is a little silly, but people tend to like it when others agree with them, when they don't it gets their knickers in a twist.
Calling it an "un-game" is certainly going overboard, however. Even as someone who hasn't enjoyed the series that much since CoD2, I don't even think they are bad games. They are, I think, rather lazily designed and rarely add much to the mix thanks to them coming out so frequently with very limited additions. But the multiplayer is tight, fast paced and polished and they appear to give millions of gamers a great deal of pleasure which can only be a good thing.
As annoying as it is to see people call MW3 an "un-game" it's pretty annoying when fans of the game call people who dislike it "video game hipsters" as well, a phrase that seems to be more and more popular every day.
TL:DR His argument was that MW3 is the FPS Heavy Rain.
It has to wait in line behind Skyward Sword, Arkam City, Dead Rising 2: OTR, and I barely have time to even play those games :(
Too many good games right now!
Whatever, if you have fun with CoD, then I'm happy for you.
Thing is, when I play CoD, I start to sound like this guy!
