The PC version of embattled Washington D.C. will have to defend itself for a few weeks. According to Electronic Theatre, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC has been pushed back in Europe to November 24th -- a two-week delay from its scheduled November 10 release date.
The confirmation comes from a recent Activision-Blizzard release schedule, which shows every version of Modern Warfare 2 on track for release except, of course, the aforementioned PC version. Our spider-sense is telling us that this delay may well apply to North America, but we’re checking with representatives for the videogame just in case it doesn’t. We wouldn’t want to cause a panic.
Cheer up PC people. Remember, you still have an exclusive on Zuma’s Revenge.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
/sigh
Well, at least that'll give me time to finish Brutal Legend off.
Once again the honest, more frugal PC gamer gets shafted up the arse.
I'd question any PC game that came out on the same day as the console version to be honest. Cause if it came out on the same day they compromised somewhere. If it comes out before then you know the consoles are the ports, if it comes out after then you know they are going over tweaks.
Next thing I know you'll start charging me for DLC on my PC games!
Seriously, you absolutely have a point. How do they expect people not to pirate this game now? Take Batman for example. That game came out for PC after the console versions and it leaked and everybody pirated it immediately. And I can't blame them, either. They wanted to play the game and it was the only way to do so.
Also.. since when were Xbox games not pirated? It may not be as rampant but it definitely happens and it's just as easy to get.
This was pretty lame news to wake up to today, as I'll bet the NA version will be delayed too.
The fact that there's a "wide variety of hardware" has absolutely nothing to do with this. It can't. It's only a what, 2 week delay? That is not enough time to fix bugs, put them through QA and ship them off to distributors. What you are saying is true that having to deal with such a wide variety of hardware possibilities is a tricky thing, but it just doesn't have anything to do with this particular delay.
No it's not, replace words in your comment to include your name followed by stupid and bullshit.
Wut?
PC publishers frequently get fucked over by people pirating their games, no wonder they choose to delay their PC releases so much.
Seriously? Same gameplay as COD4? Sorry to hear that the intuitive controls of COD4 annoyed you. This article is about the delay on pc, not how much you disliked COD4.
Anyways, a 2 week delay? I guess I'll have more time to play L4d2 and borderlands... but seriously this is such a dick move, and to give us no reason to do so. It's fine to have delays because its only realistic, but come on.
Leave the name calling on some other forum, man. Particularly if you're going to be completely wrong. That's just embarrassing.
Sorry I have standards. Oh, and I love how just because you liked the game it's fact that everyone else did too. As far as I am concerned, CoD can suck me off, I'll be playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for some time to come.
@runetheplacered
Right back at ya man
Ah, I didn't bother to check UK prices! So we get a PC price hike, and you get a console hike...we both lose!
I suspect you're right. The claim is often that the PC version of their game needs to be "tweaked" to perfection, and while I'm not calling these individual out on their word, I've played more than a few delayed PC titles that were less than perfect (GTA4 anyone?). It really makes me feel like they're willing to make you get the console version of things just because it will be readily available and that's obviously where they're throwing their most weight.
Battlefield 1943?!? When will you get to PC, AFTER Bad Company 2? What's the point?!

Still, its very, very disappointing that Infinity Ward was unable to make MW2 title feel like a true multiplatform title.
Remove all the TRC and LOC testing from console games, and PC games take LESS testing. Think about it - if you're doing an .. I dunno, 32 player multiplayer game, you need 32 360s, 32 ps3, and 32 PCs to test a full match. You hit min/med/max ATI card, min/med/max Nvidia card, etc, boom. The hardware is more intensive than 360 or PC3 obviously, but it also has literally zero TRC testing, which is easily half of what's tested (believe me, it sucks.) Also, keep in mind that you don't really 'port' from PC to 360, or the other way around. If it works on one, it's really easy to move to another.
Also, I have no idea how the port/networking issue is somehow relegated to PC's. It might happen more, but that's usually from people having insane 'virus blocking' stuff. Anyway, I've tested on the PSP, DS, Gamecube, XBox, Xbox360, PS2, PS3, PC, Wii, and probably something I've forgotten in there, and I'll tell you, the PS3 is by far the hardest to work on. Where on a PC there are compatibility, and 360's brick in the dev environment like no-ones business (I once lost three in two months), PS3's are awkward and don't sync with much of anything (and the XMB, jesus...), and the Wii has about 50 bytes of RAM, they all have pluses too.
In the end, this is, as mentioned above, Activision knowing that they can increase profits if they delay the 10 dollar cheaper (thanks Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony!) PC version. They also mention piracy, but the main reason is to block the cheaper one until the heavy-first-week-or-two of console sales is done. PC sales tend to be much more of a soft curve than the Drop Of Death console sales get after release. See TF2 on steam vs. Medal of Honour on 360 or something.
Ehh... for some reason, I was thinking ArmA II over OFP: DR. What made you choose the latter? (ArmA is legendary for the bug issue, but I'm not seeing what it is in Dragon Rising that's got such allure besides being on console.)
I was already getting this for less than MSRP, and with regular shipping I would have gotten it at least a week after the release date anyway... so ah well.
But yeah, this delaying PC releases is getting a "little" disheartening =/
