Sure, I don't play Call of Duty, so I could say this doesn't affect me, but that's not true. If consumers vote for this with their wallet, it could mean a whole new negative trend for the industry.
And by "love it" I mean "gently invite Activision to lick my ass as I play Battlefield 3"
You think that "helping you get better" is worth paying for? I can get better at the game for $60 and spending time playing the game I just fucking bought, and maybe talking to an online community for the low, low cost of free.
If you pay for this, congrats: you're a Grade-A retard who just sent the entire industry a message that it's okay to start charging you for elements of agame you've already purchased, and piecemeal, at that. You'll rue the day you voted for that...or maybe you'll be too busy then as you were when you paid for your "subscription" - head firmly lodged up your own ass.
Bungie.net provides the clan options, stat tracking, heat maps, etc. for Halo 3 and Reach. They even expose the metadata so the super hardcore folks can munge the stats in all sorts of creative ways.
@Gungrinner
I was not thinking that but since you pointed it out, it sounds like you are on to something.
"And to all the people that are saying "Halo" can you guys provide me with a link to where it monitors your game and helps you improve upon it? I could use that."
bungie.net provides heat maps, stats and career tracking (among other things), though I'm not sure I would say it can help you "improve your game" any more than this new Elite thing will. (Looking at pictures and gun stats can only get you so far, after all!)
I hope this flops their game, because when this becomes successful, other developers will put it in again, gradually, when it gets steep no one will bitch about it.
A big FUCK YOU, Kotick.
They've backed themselves in a corner with PC support by not supporting PC gamers, so fuck them.
Just because I can't do heroics in WoW doesn't mean I'm not supposed to bitch about it.
Just because I don't want this ''elite'' service, doesn't mean I'm not supposed to bitch about it.
This will hurt gaming in the long run, I've said it before, and I've said it again, they will drain CoD like a leech and toss it aside.
You fucking fanboys piss me off, grow some damn braincells. ''Derp it doesn't affect me anyway now zerp'' YOU ARE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY, FOOL.
Come on man....
but will it help improve my game god damn it!
Seriously though look at a game like Black Ops and think about customization. Obviously CoD is about guns and I have noticed certain guns/perk loadouts just work better on certain maps due to how big/small and how much exposure there is. I could see it atleast offering pertinant info regarding your playstyle vs. Maps that don't work well to your strengths.
Either way as much as I could use info like that i'm still failing to see why I should pay for it.
"Obviously CoD is about guns and I have noticed certain guns/perk loadouts just work better on certain maps due to how big/small and how much exposure there is."
Good point. There is a lot more going on in Black Ops than in a game like Halo, there's no doubt about that.
and for those who try to say its my connection i have a 20Mbps cable connection and im pretty sure when i get kicked in the middle of a game and get this http://imgur.com/y0fPN , it isnt my side...
Activision, we love our fan! As long as they can bend over, and over, an over again!!
activision is on a greedy roll now ;P
And the sad thing? It won't just be CoD kiddies and fratboys who pay for this, I'm sure a good 25%-35% of gamers even on websites like Destructoid are going to end up buying it if they play CoD. You guys already bought the insanely expensive DLC, what's to stop you from whoring yourselves out even more for your lord and master Bobby Kotick?
$60 game, $50 online service (for 360), and now another $20-$40 for a service that should in theory be free? Nice one Activision, when the gaming industry starts to die from all the bloated useless fees we're paying for, I'll know to blame you in the end.
See you fine folks on the Battlefield (3) ;)
