Hnnnngh!
The people who buy the stolen copies will likely pay that fee as well so those copies aren't a total loss, either.
You idiots are paying $110 for a videogame. Think about that for a minute.
What's next... paying for online credits? "Each online battle is 3 credits. You can buy our credits $5 for 5 credits! Hurry now!"
Why is it any of your goddamn business what anyone else spends their money on? I mean, I'm not personally going to buy the game or the online service but that doesn't mean I'm going to look down my nose at anyone that does. If it's worth $110 bucks to them, and they're sure they'll get $110 worth of enjoyment from it, why does that affect you enough to start name-calling like a pouty 8 year old?
You take care of free touch's bank account and let everyone else take care of their own, huh?
I get 300-500 hours per CoD iteration.
You probably spent $60 on some game in the past year that only netted you 10 hours at most of gameplay. Two games will net you 20ish hours at $10 over CoD and the *optional* Elite service.
Come at me bro! I get my money's worth.
as i said before....... COD>Battleshittt!!! lololololololol
Remember, a fool and his money...
and as much as i like to consider myself to be a critical consumer i cant deny that i am kinda ready for this.
Most of Elite is free and comes with the game. The $50 gets you the DLC and some other stuff like added video storage and the ability to enter certain competitions.
Augh. I'm not sure if Activision completely dropped the ball when they started giving information about this, or if everybody just had earplugs in.
Meh. People gave me shit for paying for WoW monthly, but I got weeks worth of game time out if it. Meanwhile these people were spending twice what I spent in a year for WoW.
Also - plastic instruments. If you ever bought Rock Band or Guitar Hero ever, and spent around $100 for the game and now defunct plastic instruments, as long as you had fun with it that's all that matters. It doesn't make all the great high value games like Skyward Sword disappear.
It's all the same people who think that Facebook is going to start charging. Activision does have a bad image though so it's no surprise everyone assumed it would be "PAY-TO-PLAY!!!"
I ain't arguing with that logic.
I still think that Activision has learned all too well from WoW, and will continue to become more and more like a virtual crack dealer. They'll sell you value, then start microcharging out the ass. Maybe not today, maybe not next year, but their end goal is to get you sucking dick to play your next match, believe that.
I'm in agreement with that - im also a micro doom-sayer - the end is nigh! Just not right now :p
The amount of money you're spending, multiplied by the amount of shitstorm and offset by Activision's net profit means you're realistically spending...hold on, let me calculate it...
Fourteen-billion dollars.
Sorry bro, can't argue with you anymore. You'll need to go ahead and deposit $50 into my paypal account to finish this conversation.
@Magnalon: Nope, the main reason is because I don't spend $60 on games. Im a cheap ass gamer by heart. I load up on sale days, have shit on backlog, etc.
If you really feel like your 300-500 hours per cod is worth your money, thats fantastic... but my question to you is, if you've played every COD up to this point, and haven't spent $110, did you feel like you are getting an even better deal? If you feel as if Activision really should charge you $110 per game, why not go back, and for every COD played, give them the rest of the money they deserve, or if you feel like its worth it to you, why not just NOT get the pass, and buy the shit individually? I mean, is worth it to you to spend that much because of all the hours and hours of gaming you get out of it right?
TLDR, you can't justify paying $110 for this game, when the games before it have cost you signigicantly less and, even with less options and less mappacks/upgrades have given you the same amount of play time as this current version.
... sigh, but then again, if its worth it to you, why should I give a shit. Carry on. Its totally radical.
Not really sure what you're getting at. I think you're just confused as to what COD Elite is.
I will be playing MW3 on and off for the next 12 months - so for me, it's worth it. COD Elite is not just 4 map packs at a $15 discount - if you think it's just a season pass.
It allows me to mess around with my configuration while I'm out with my buddies, chatting with them at a bar over Sunday Night Football over the ins and outs of certain perks, and save their suggested loadouts using my smartphone. It provides videos and other perks that will increase my enjoyment of of the game. Also, Elite has cross platform tracking, which is pretty cool if I'm playing at a friend's house who has it on PS3.
Long story short, a lot of my friends play COD, and this will increase my enjoyment factor.
"but my question to you is, if you've played every COD up to this point, and haven't spent $110, did you feel like you are getting an even better deal?"
TL:DR - "Yes".
And to be totally honest, most people want the map packs, something like 10%-15% actually buy them. I played Reach a lot, and I played WipEoutHD a lot. Not having the mappacks/dlc for those games haven't hindered the actual game play at all. Case in point, Bomberman XBL/PSN. I bought the dlc costumes. Other players could only see them if everyone else had bought them also. It was a waste, because not everyone gets them...
I guess all is good until they decide this DLC will be mandatory... which seems to be coming before too long.
Bunch of whiney workers.
By the way goods and services are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Whether it's a smart purchase is a different story.
I bought Enchanted Arms shortly after it came out. It was worth what I was willing to pay but it wasn't a smart purchase.
"And to be totally honest, most people want the map packs, something like 10%-15% actually buy them."
Enh. Sorry bud but you're out of your element on this one. Call of Duty is a whole 'nother animal compared to Halo, or most other online multiplayer games.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/02/black-ops-map-pack-sales-hit-18-million/.
That's basically 1 map pack sold per copy of the game. The vast majority of COD users buy map packs.
Ok, I stand corrected... a good majority buys "some" of the map packs, but even in that article, it averages out to $76 per person. Which is a lot cheaper than $110, which is more like one mappack, instead of the total bundle.
And not to let this slip, but one of the packs was a "zombie" pack right? I mean, that will attract more people to it. I would like to see the numbers and how it pans out, because the whole zombie craze makes things sell faster than they should usually. I'm not saying thats the main reason it sold so much dlc, but going back to halo again, zombie matches are pretty popular. So it probably didnt hurt the dlc to use them.
Where are you getting these numbers? The game is 60 dollars, Elite is 50. If Elite costs 50 bucks and 4 map packs separately at 15 bucks costs 60, then you're saving 10 bucks. If you already planned on buying the maps, you'd be stupid not to get it.
The 'game' doesn't cost 110 dollars, it's 60 and the DLC is 60 also, which is exactly how MW2 and Black Ops did it. Nothing has changed except now there's a fancy service to bundle it together for you.
I have 9 days logged into Black Ops. I only bought 2 of the map packs so my grand total was just under 100 bucks for 216 hours of gameplay not including the single player or zombie modes. I fail to see how that is a bad deal.
I spent money on a game that I will spend a lot of time playing, therefor I'm losing money while spending time playing a game???
so? it's not hard to get a lot of hours out of any multiplayer game, My friend has over 1000 hours off CSS which he bought for 20$ and last time I played my SSBB had over 900 hours on it
And the reason I as well as many gamers should have a problem with this is because millions of people will buy this and the game. Spending $110 (plus tax) on a single game. This tells activision that we are willing to pay that kind of money for less than a years work for the studio. Then they will continue to charge that price over and over again. Its basic business and they are very easily pulling the sheep's wool over the consumer's eyes, bending them over and shouting into their ears, "take it a little bit deeper." But they don't seem to notice because they are playing call of duty.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy.
How is it weird? If you buy a game new, play it for 60 hours, you effectively spend 1 dollar per hour of entertainment. The less time you play, you're "paying more" for your entertainment.
Granted that also kind of devalues the entertainment in a certain sense. IE: an hour of CoD is only worth a nickel for the people who play it non-stop.
and I am sure that people who orginally played CS upraded to Source when it came out. Those game were probably 40 bucks a pop at launch.
