Soon even the soft or less-elite modern combat veterans will be able to get in on the World War II arcade shooter action. Infinity Ward’s downloadable, Call of Duty: Classic, is set to make its proper debut over Xbox LIVE Arcade on Wednesday.

A recent tweet by European Xbox LIVE man Graeme Boyd (via Kotaku) revealed as much, adding that the downloadable will set Euro gamers back 1,200 Microsoft Bucks. US Xbox LIVE man Major Nelson followed soon after via his blog, echoing the price point.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 “Hardened” and “Prestige” special edition owners have had access to Call of Duty: Classic since MW2’s launch earlier this November, but this is the first time we’ve seen a firm release date for the mass launch of the downloadable.

Don’t know what Classic is all about? Check out our Ten Minute Taste above.

I used to tear that up in college. This makes me want the PC version. Also, What AlLeBlanc said.

The best CoD in my books.

I wonder how players will fare without regenerating health.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite games of all time. It really revolutionized shooters and the WWII genre, before it died that is.

One of the best games ever and easily my favorite Call of Duty. This port looks kind of shabby compared to how you can pimp the PC version now-a-days, one wonders why they couldn't do 1080p with AA and AF for a game this old, but whatever... PC-phobic fans should be satisified with finally being able to play this masterpiece.

It really shows you how simplified these games have become.

I'm surprised they didn't market it as "vCoD" (vanilla Call of Duty for those not up on their lingo). That's what everyone started calling it, even as early as CoD2 was released.

Cod was awesome. Back then. I find not many fps really hold up to the test of time (even half life).

I downloaded it already from my MW2:Hardened and to be honest it doesn't look that great and the analog joystick controls are a little wonky...a bit of a diservice to my fond memories of defending Pegasus Bridge. But the original on PC was definitely one of the greatest FPS games I have ever played.

Since it doesn't have United Offensive I'm not interested.
