Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC detailed, coming February 1 photo

Treyarch's Dan Bunting was a guest on the latest episode of the Major Nelson podcast and he went on to reveal the first downloadable content package for Call of Duty: Black Ops. "First Strike," as the new content is called, is a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360 and will be out on February 1 for 1200 MS Points/$15.

The pack will contain four new multiplayer maps and one new zombie map. The maps Discovery and Kowloon are based on areas from the single-player campaign, Berlin Wall is a map set at the famous Checkpoint Charlie in Germany and the best of the new maps is Stadium, set in a hockey rink/athletic complex. Yes, really.

The new zombie map is called Ascension and no info was really given on this map. Expect more news including screenshots in the coming weeks.

February seems like a good time to keep fans engaged in the shooter, especially with Homefront and Bulletstorm releasing in the same period.

It's not a big deal, 15$ for 4 multiplayer maps and a zombie map is a better amount of content then 3 new maps and 2 rehashed maps. Even though that was the setup for WaW DLC and it was around 10$ a pop, I can live with it. Zombies are worth it. Being a PS3 owner, and judging on MW2 DLC, Im sure Ill only have to wait one extra month, no biggy.

I just don't understand this $15 for 3 - 5 maps thing that's going down lately. It's ridiculous. I thought map packs used to be like 8 - 12 new maps. People really need to start using their brains and stop paying so much for these damn tiny map packs - I honestly think a map pack of this size should be free... 400 MSP at the most. It's kind of sickening to think you can buy Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Castle Crashers, or any other quality XBLA title for this price or less... hell, I think you can probably even get Bad Company 2 for about 20 bucks now. Just don't understand it.

This is a better deal than the 10 bucks I spent on 3 mediocre Halo Reach maps. And I love Reach way more than CODBLOPS but those last maps were a rip off.

@bayko Then put your money where your mouth is and don't buy it. Hell, start an online petition cause those always go so well. The zombie map alone is worth it to me, that's the only reason I bought the World at War map packs. I never played the competitive multiplayer in that game. The only difference is in Black Ops I do both, so this is actually worth the price for some people compared to stimulus package or resurgence package.

Hey, at least they're waiting several months before releasing it. Makes it at least appear that this wasn't simply content stripped from the retail version and then repackaged a month later as DLC.

Wow, they're actually asking what people wanted (interesting maps) then the generic majority that was MW2's DLC.

I still don't like the whole $15 for a map pack thing, but at least it's for a semi-decent amount of new content this time. I might consider actually buying the DLC this time around... might.

$15 bucks is pricy, but that hockey ring sound delicious.

Hell, I'd pay for it if only to support Treyarch for making the best Call of Duty game since the series started.

The second best was Big Red One.

@PhantomOfPanton The zombie playtime and enjoyment I got from the maps in World at War was far greater then the time I got in any Call of Duty game to date. I will definitely take advantage of the online maps in Black Ops too, but Zombies are my favorite things when it comes to movies and games. I'll probably be playing Zombies after I'm long bored with the online...oh wait. That's already the case with Black Ops.

Checkpoint Charlie FTW. These sound INTERESTING as opposed to the random garbage we got for MW2. It sounds solid at least. I'm keeping an open mind.

Just release overpriced dlc over and over and eventually people will get used to it. 15 dollars is 25 PERCENT of the main game, so unless these 5 maps equal 25 PERCENT of the retail game's content, then you are being ripped off. But like I said, after the huge stimulus package ripoff, people are going to buy this regardless of the price.

So quickly? Urgh. I better play a lot of Black Ops before this map pack comes out, because once it does, the game will be dead to me. Sorry, $15 is too expensive for me. Maybe not for some, but it is for me.

I might bite - if I'm still playing Black Ops in February.

I never actually played World at War, but I found the zombie mode in this game very underwhelming - but perhaps that's because I've played too much Killing Floor, L4D, or L4D2.

Michabayexploshaaaaan! Ha dazzler ftw! I love codblops threads. Although I have to say for once I'm buying the $15 map pack. Codblops is my favorite cod in years and those maps + more zombies is worth it to me. Probably the only I'll get though. Anyways back to finishing mass effect 2 then some X-Men before bed featuring DAZZLER!!!!!

Calling it: PC owners will have to pony up the cash if they want the new maps. The days of "free maps" for COD games are over. Or at least, have been over since MW2's Stimulus Package.

People seriously buy this.? Guess they just started playing this gen. Whatever happened to the CS days.? Oh wait, valve is still doing it. Maps aren't worth $5, hell, it should've been free. Guess there's no such thing as fan service anymore. Paying $60 for a game won't get you all the content.

Yeah, im alright. Wont ever pay 15 dollars for a few maps, dont give a shit how "awesome" their zombie mode is. I havent bought one single DLC this gen and dont plan to. Fucking overpriced content developers were too goddamn lazy to stick in the game before it shipped. Start releasing better games and wont be a need for content DLC.

CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS SHOULD'VE BEEN DELAYED UNTIL EVERY POSSIBLE IDEA WAS HAD AND HAD BEEN ACTED UPON TO HAVE EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE IN THE GAME.

Doesn't sound as good as any of the MW2 maps, anyway.

Not a chance in hell I would pay that much for DLC for such an overrated game!

A. Medal of Honour is a million times better than Black Ops. (Gameplay wise, I just wish it had a more robust levelling/unlocking system)

B. Despite playing Black Ops on the 360 i won't be getting these maps because I'm nearly bored of the game already after only a couple of weeks and feel the entry price was more than it was worth alone.

C. Don't want to send the message that it's OK to have what i consider the biggest dick-move in this industry: timed exclusive DLC.

so, uh yeah.

I can't justify myself to pay $15 dollars simply for new maps. If I were part of a hardcore clan or group of friends then I would be interested with the new metagame that each map brings to the table. If the map pack was $5 then I can see myself throwing that money away for a more fresh CoDBlOps experience.

What's funny to me is that Black Ops already has a shit ton of varied maps out of the box. The only lacking portion is Zombies and honestly it's one extra map is not worth $15.

I've really enjoyed becoming initated with the Call Of Duty franchise. Shame they continue to overprice their content.
