Call of Duty 4: Betas and weapons and stealth kills, oh my! photo

Charlie Oscar Delta, the official web page for the highly anticipated Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has info on the upcoming beta. The beta page (only viewable to registered members) says that sign-ups for the beta "will come sooner than you think", but until then we'll just have to check out the details and wait patiently.

After you sign up (you haven't done that yet?) you'll get the lowdown on how the whole thing will work, including how to start a game, gameplay controls, in-depth details on the weapons, game modes, maps and much more. It's like they are teasing us on purpose!

After eyeballing the information they've laid out, you'll probably be chomping at the bit to get into the public beta. We totally understand. From Charlie Oscar Delta:
Don't worry, we'll give you plenty of warning. Look for an update here in BETA headquarters. We'll also throw an announcement into SITREP and add a countdown clock on our homepage.

To be eligible for a token-you must be 18 years of age or older, punctual and capable of answering three trivia questions correctly. Yes, punctual. To be fair, we're doling out the tokens on a first come first serve basis. We're still finalizing plans for where the Beta will be available. Initially, in order to get underway we'll be rolling-out in the United States. As soon as we're able to confirm which other countries are good to go we'll be back to update everybody.
As an extra bonus, check out this video showing stealth kills in action in Call of Duty 4. Fun! Hurry up with that beta, guys!

[thanks, Mr. Donut]

This game looks great, but those stealth kills like absurd. Its just an instant quick punch to the back of the head and its a surefire way to knock them out? If you are punching someone who is running and you're running as well, there is no way a quick jab is just going to knock them out.

ya i agree with skAnarky. those aren't "stealth kills" they're just a punch or a stab with a knife from behind, very lame, a true stealth kill would be getting a dude in a choke or headlock and either snapping his neck or slitting his throat...

Can't wait for this! I have never been a huge Call of Duty fan, mainly because of the tired out WWII theme. This actually looks like it is going to be awesome and I am really hoping the multiplayer is going to be even better.

It's about time we started deviating a bit from the WWII shooter thing. Looks pretty good, so far.

Actually fellas, slicing a person's throat in real life from whatever angle does a good job of killing them.

Real life doesn't have hit points. The kills are more or less spot on.

Looks like a killer donkey punch.

I don't think it will make a big impact. Counter Strike: Source has the same thing (stab from behind is an instant kill), yet I hardly see it at all.

So much for tossing a bone to the PC crowd who this game was supposed to be primarily for.
