Byron report hits March 27th: Brace for impact photo

The UK games industry is clenching its buttocks in anticipation for Dr. Tanya Byron's infamous report on videogames and the Internet in relation to my home country's children. As you might imagine, there's an air of nervousness surrounding what could have huge consequences.

The report is going to come out on March 27th. It's been a long wait since we first heard about this report, and among the details it is highly expected that Byron will push for mandatory ratings on all UK games, and, as we talked about yesterday, possibly propose ditching the BBFC in favor of PEGI. All in all though, it is hoped that Byron will produce and a fair and intelligent report that focuses on educating parents, rather than forcing legislation down our throats.

Must get my hands on a copy of this. We'll keep you posted on what could be one of the most important moments in UK gaming.

Way to sensationalise there Jimbo :P

"most important moments in UK gaming"

Really? So some guy in a tie will dictate as to how consumers enjoy themselves? I couldn't give a fuck what the guy has to say, I shall continue to play games and when I have kids - they will be trained at games. Most notably manhunt and all fps based games. The only important thing here is that games are not banned and or/forced to water down their content.

Tanya Byron doesn't wear a tie. And is a woman.

And this IS important. It's in important political study of the affects of videogames that could even legitimize the rights of games to portray whatever content they want if Tanya's report is as good as I hope it will be.

It's not sensationalism. It's a fact. This is a big f'n deal and I'm really anticipating it.

Tempus if you're idea of good parenting is training your kids at Manhunt and "all fps based games" I sincerly hope you never have children.

That's Keith Vaz? I was expecting someone who looked a bit nastier.
He just looks like someones boring/slightly perverted uncle.

sounds like a big enough deal to me.

Tempus doesn't happen to be one of Jack Thompsons Dtoid accounts by any chance?

This is very important Tempus, but I'm guessing you live in the US where this wont affect you.

Also, if you are being serious about letting your kids play Manhunt and M rated shooters, you are a fucking idiot. Or a troll. Probably both.

To be fair, Tempus is a cool guy and was probably being sarcastic for much of it. I'm shocked barely anyone remembers him.

I'm reserving judgment until her report can be confirmed by Dr. Phil, or possibly Flavor-Flav.

I so wanted Tempus to be Jack Thompson, sitting there at his computer, furiously rubbing his hands together as he awaits Sterlings next post so he can grab that crucial first comment and slap an insult in there.

Ah well, a boy can dream.

The PSP will LET me rape people??!?! I've had it all this time. All of those maces to face and kicks in the boner. Not anymore! I'm out to go and rape now. I don't know when I'll be back. Thank you, Sterling!

Everybody, grab dust off your PSPs, we're gonna have a rape party!

I was being deliberately obnoxious :D Bless you and your readers Jim, it's often like a "local town for local people" but I love you all the same :)

My psp game did let me rape someone. It just sat there on my desk, watching me do it. It didn't even call the police. Watching, like it was taking a lesson.

That poor goat.

Ah, great to finally here when we are going to hear what Tanya is going to say! I too must get my hands on a copy of this report, mainly to aid my university dissertation, but also for general interest.

People in UK have video games? That is new to me I thought they only had tea and freakish PAL TV sets.

Oh and they ruin Contra and teenage mutant ninja turtles.
