Now, I hate to judge a game based on the first 10 minutes or so of play, but I feel compelled to throw this warning out to potential Xbox 360 Sonic the Hedgehog buyers -- TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! Maybe I haven't played a Sonic game in a while, but since when did the series turn into a poor man's RPG? Before actually getting into what you could call "gameplay," I was forced to suffer some Final Fantasy-like CGI about a princess and Dr. Eggman. I thought Sonic was about going fast and collecting rings, not potential beastiality situations.
So, after 5 minutes of pure CGI hell, I was then thrown into the town and now I'm being forced to walk around and talk to people ... wtf? I just want to go fast and do sh*t. If I wanted to play an RPG, well damn, I'd go and play one. I won't even get into the constant loading screens for every single situation, and I mean every single situation -- want to talk to someone, bam, loading. If this continues for the next 10 minutes, I'm gonna just abandon this game forever. What gives Sega, seriously? Did you just throw in the towel on this one?
Oh, and the camera, absolute crap. How games are still made today that have broken camera systems is beyond me.
On the other hand, I played Sonic on Wii and pretty much loved it. :)
Back on to the first hand, ROBERT - when you move to S.F., can I come over and play!
"Who's idea was it to render cartoon like characters alongside photo realistic people."
Hey, it worked for Kingdom Hearts!
Have you played any of the GBA sonics?
I poop too much.
The amount of gameplay I could actaully endure was minimal, as others have said its really easy to fall off. I dont know why they stuck you up there on that broekn bridge, how is it more fun than racing about where you cant fall off.
Also I hated the slingshot type things, which seem to have essential replaced what I referred to as 'revving' when I was a kid (hold down and jump). They would send you speeding forwards, but the camera would swing round just as you were about to regain control.
The result being you would watch to see where you'd end up and upon regaining control your thumb moved the joystick instincively. Only hthe camera had swapped about and sao the movement was essentially inverted and you'd go tumbling off the edge.
Also the auto-lock on, hit use to attack, system really wasn't very good. It was either way too easy, requiring no skill other than to hit the button without needing you to aim, orientate your character or even look at the screen. Or else hitting attack would in -fact, once again send you flying over the edge.
I didn't get to any lame RPG elements, the fundemental gameplay itself was torturous enough.
Some games don't need re-inventing, which I think NSMB proves. What sega need to do is go ahead and move the home console Sonics back to side-scrolling, and hire themselves some good level designers.
Apologies for the rant.
Awesome movie.
Oh and the other stink burger that you can download the demo for... Superman Returns.. what a rotting piece of garbage...
In other news, Sonic Rush for the DS is only 20 bucks, get that one.
Seriously, the Sonic Adventure games have never really worked. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Wii version, but I agree Sonic Rush for DS is a great way to get an old-school fix in the meantime.
Sonic should be hauling ass around that cliff and everywhere else too.
